Album Notes
Love & Other Ephemera is a collection of songs written by New York City-based singer-songwriter Hank Kim. L&OE is being released under the moniker of Silvery Ghosts. Kim, who released two full-length CDs over the past decade, Blue Alibi and Notorious Rainproof Smile, chose to record L&OE under the name of Silvery Ghosts for multiple reasons.

"It really seems to fit with the sonic approach that we took with this recording. The ethereal, airy feel of the tracks has a ghostlike quality," said Kim. "Also, this record marks my return to music after a long hiatus and so it just felt right to start from a clean slate."

Kim chose to record the project at Twin Buffalo Studios in Brooklyn in 2013 with the first day of pre-production coinciding with a blistering New York heatwave. L&OE was produced by Nate Martinez, whose own band Thieving Irons had made an impact on Kim. "I had admired Nate's work both as a producer and musician with Thieving Irons and before that with the band Pela. Nate has this amazing ability to create these distinctive, otherworldly sonic settings that elevate songs without sacrificing their emotional punch."

Love & Other Ephemera also features the vocals of another New York City staple, Kelli Scarr, who shares lead vocal duties with Kim on the record. "In some ways, this record borrows from those old Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra records from the 60's. I loved the contrast of Lee's baritone with the light, airy timbre of Nancy's voice on those old records and I kind of wanted to resurrect that in a 2014 context. Kelli was the perfect choice. I really liked her work with Moby and I thought she had the versatility to bring different colors to the entire spectrum of tunes."

Great soundtrack for dinner parties (or just about anything)
I liked this album from the first time I heard Hank Kim and Kelli Scarr singing together on "Vivid in the Valley." The song has a modern martini lounge feel, and the rest of the album followed suit with it's lush beautiful electronic sounds that are intertwined with the more traditional instruments. I kept the album on repeat and because the mix of Kim's modern crooner style (think Chris Isaak), and Scarr's sultry, sexy vocals was an addicting combination. My other album favorites are the electronic-rockabilly mix in "Headlong" and the light airy sound of music and voices mingling like a helium filled balloon in "Arise Lover Surprise." If you're looking for an album to listen to on as you relax on a hot summer evening or host a dinner party for friends, this album is the perfect choice!
