Sub Rosa

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Sub Rosa, which was recorded at Simeon Flick's Blue Chair Studio in the South Park borough of San Diego, found its genesis in hardship.

"I was going through so much adversity at the time," Simeon recalls. "My wife miscarried, our cat got really sick, I began having issues with my voice and developed an umbilical hernia, and my mother in-law's health was rapidly surrendering to non-Hodgkin lymphoma [Diane passed away on September 28, 2011]. I decided to start working on demos for another album as an escape, even though I had released 'Piquant' less than a year before, because I was desperate to hear new music."

Sub Rosa is the sound of one man striving to evolve. Not only did Simeon Flick write, arrange, perform, record, and mix everything you hear on these 11 tracks, but on this, his fifth studio album, he also designed the art for the first time, ratcheting up the ante and adding a new skill set to his resume.

"I'm extremely satisfied with how this record came out," Simeon reflects. "The songs are there, always have been. But the producer and engineer have caught up and the aural results have truly benefited. I listen to records on virtually every level now, so the fact that I'm still able to listen to this group of songs after almost 2 years of work without cringing too much is really saying something for me!"

Sub Rosa was mastered by Paul Abbott (ZenMastering) and is dedicated to the memory of Diane Kultzow.
