Album Notes
A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE is the début 10-track album of new original songs by Singer/Songwriter Simon Atkinson and his 7-piece band Simon Atkinson & The foundryman's Apprentice. Simon's songs, described by many as a 'Folky Jazz Vibe' provide hints of his previous musical influences & heritage

Although a performer for over 30 years Simon has come relatively late to songwriting . Developing and performing his own songs initially in a duo, Simon soon began 'collecting musicians' calling firstly on players from his time as a Jazz& Blues vocalist within the popular Simon Atkinson & The Ben Marcato Trio (Glastonbury Festival 2007 & 2008)

During 2011 the first incarnation of The Foundryman's Apprentice began performing Simon's compositions - recording their EP 'The Pawnbroker' - released to very positive reviews in 2012 including BBC Radio 2's " The Pawnbroker - a recording which should be taken seriously"

A Year later and the current line up of the band performed to very enthusiastic audiences at a variety of events and venues including the 2013 Wickerman Festival. With only Cellist Becky Crichton remaining from the original Foundryman's Apprentice, the existing and distinctive Folk-Jazz sound was further enhanced by legendary Gypsy-Jazz Bouzouki player John Duffy and his distinctive vocal style. Multi talented Hugh Clinton has added Mandolin, Electric Guitar and sublime backing vocals. Bass Player Keir Highet is a welcome recent addition, joining the multi-style percussionist and drummer Richard Hamilton. Further strings have been added by the talented young fiddle player Cat Atkinson.

The recording of Simon Atkinson & The Foundryman's Apprentice new album A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE brings together all of the musicians listed above incorporating both new and updated songs recorded over a two year period during the various incarnations of the band and truly represents the band's current live set, making an ideal souvenir for live audiences. The Word on the Streets Magazine's review of the album - " The musicianship is faultless..this is classic songwriting in the mould of THE DIVINE COMEDY"

In The words of Scotlands' South Queensferry Radio; " Simon Atkinson & The Foundryman's Apprentice - Probably the best band you've never heard, but the future is bright"
