Album Notes
'Two Times Two' was composed in the spring of 2015 for two pianos.
Each piano plays the same music but at different speeds. Piano one plays at 100 beats per minutes, and the second piano plays at 80 beats per minute. The slower piano gradually gets further behind, so occasionally piano one repeats a phrase until they’re aligned again. It’s a canon, but stretched by the different speeds. The music is composed using a whole tone scale (B, C#, D#, F, G, A). In performance both pianists should wear an earpiece with a metronome beat to keep to the exact tempos specified.
'One Times One' was composed shortly after 'Two Times Two' as a lyrical prelude or introduction. It is written for one piano and performed with one finger. The aim was to provide a very clear ‘pure’ music before the more complex sound of 'Two Times Two'.
