Album Notes
With exceeding Great Joy, Simple Truth presents its’ third album, a Christmas compilation of original songs and arrangements. To say this album was a work of GOD would be a slight understatement. From the first mention to the final mix it was 365 days, one year exactly! We were blessed to “find” our original sound engineer, Sonny True, living in the same town as Jodi and willing to produce this project. Amazing, who you find at the grocery store, we were unaware he had moved. We were also blessed to have our long time friend and former band member, Pam Hill, joining us on the recording, singing a third harmony and adding a piano arrangement. She and her family just “happened” to move back to Maine in time for the practice and recording and returned to the mission field in South Africa just after the initial recording tracks were laid.

Although listed as a Christmas album, Child Of The Manger is truly multi-seasonal. Many of the songs refer to Old Testament prophecy being fulfilled in the birth of Christ, reflect upon the death and resurrection of Christ, and look forward to His return at the second coming. Approximately half of the songs were written as “Advent Choruses” used in corporate worship at the church Debbie & Jodi attended for many years. The other half is a set of songs written over the past 30 years.

Our recording studio was the basement of Christ Church Episcopal in Gardiner, Maine. The graphics were completed by Debbie & Sonny; a task that proved to be a “stretching” but wonderful experience. We had set a goal in October 2010 to have the project completed and ready to release by Thanksgiving 2011. Through much prayer, persistence and several of long nights this goal was attained! A few embellishments were added to the recording such as a Bass guitar, shaker egg and tambourine. We had learned years ago the difference in dynamics between live presentation and recording (recording needing a little help to make it interesting.) This time of adding instrumental tracks was very creative and overall rewarding. Some of the instrumental embellishments did not make the final mix; being cut during the last two mix down sessions, but were fun to have experimented with.

To summarize, Child Of The Manger is an album in which we (as the song See the Star admonishes) laid our gifts at the manger side. This was a fun album to produce having begun to “pull out the stops” on creativity, from the initial tracks, through adding instrumentals to the final graphics and sound mixes, each of us involved got to be stretched in our gifting. I pray this album blesses the listeners; focusing them on the true reason for the Christmas season, Jesus Christ. With exceeding Great Joy, Simple Truth gives you “Child Of The Manger.” Merry Christmas, all year ‘round.
