Album Notes
The highly-anticipated DEBUT album, "WHEN I DON'T SLEEP.." by Sinem Saniye ("See-nem" "Sahh-nee-yeh") may be more than what you can handle. Then again, it may just be what you've been looking for. It's what can happen to one person when they are more than just tossing and turning in the night!

"When I Don't Sleep" is a mixture of heartfelt songs as honest as a diary about a troubled youth, vulnerability, the search for identity, celebrating the mystery of the afterlife, finding love the most unlikely places, discovering a second sexual coming of age, restlessness and fear, and all the thoughts that may race through any person's mind when they are up at night, unable to sleep, and searching for answers...

With this kind of captivating subject matter, it's no surprise Sinem's voice comes through with such raw honesty, smooth, strong, and soaring at times, shy, gritty, and vulnerable at others. The songs on the album are deliciously wrapped up in Pop Americana with Bossa Nova, Jazz, and Middle-Eastern flavors, combining Sinem's love of Pop beats and song structure with World music influences.

"When I Don't Sleep.." is an album that is sure to stay in your collection forever, never aging over time, but staying young in its childlike and innocent nature, always restless, never weary, and brewing with a secret sensuality that is begging to be released.

The album came to fruition through the work of several talented collaborators that Sinem sought out. Produced by French producer Henri Scars Struck, "When I Don't Sleep.." has just the right mix of European sounds, Middle-eastern beats, tinges of Jazz, and Pop/Electronica beats he is known for.

Henri has worked with artists/companies or projects for Grammy Award-winning Producer/DJ Roger Sanchez, Madonna, The Polics, Malcolm McLaren, Thierry Dreyfus, Lenny Kravitz, Shakira, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Rakim, De La Soul, KRS One, Alejandro Sanz, Daniel Lazarus, Andy Hughes, Galliano, Jean Charles De Castelbajac, Charles Aznavour, Alicia Keys, No Doubt, Chic, Brand New Heavies, Cirque Du Soleil, Carleen Anderson, Simply Red, The Mango Room, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Krizia, Pierre Balmain, BCBG Max Azria, Richard Tyler, Franck Sorbier, Didier Ludot, Le Meridien/Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Okaidi, Unilever Prestige, Midem, Estee Lauder, French Tuesdays.

Once all the recording was completed, Sinem sought out mixing engineer Mark Plati to create the balance in the songs. Mark has worked with David Bowie, The Cure, Shawn Colvin, Prince, Brazilian Girls, Natalie Imbruglia, Earl Slick, IVY, Heather Eatman, Anik Jean, Louise Attaque, Eden Ants, Dave Navarro, Les Rita Mitsouko, Hooverphonic, Michael Stipe, Alisha's Attic, Junior Vasquez, Arthur Baker, Alain Bashung, New Order, Suzanne Vega, Marc Cohn, Ruth Ruth, Duncan Sheik, Robbie Williams, Riuichi Sakamoto, and Quincy Jones among others. Artists of note: David Bowie (six albums & three tours; producer, engineer, mixer, or musician, sometimes all), Shawn Colvin (she won Grammies for Record of the Year & Song of the Year 1997; engineer), Louise Attaque (they won the Les Victoires' Award for Rock Album of the Year 2006; producer, mixer & musician)

The last but never least in the creative part of the album-making process, the mastering. This is when all the songs are lined up, and are sonically adjusted to the highest quality, to put it simply. The legendary Greg Calbi of Sterling Sound Studios was the mastering engineer for the project. He has worked with a long list of chart-topping artists, including Norah Jones, Fionna Apple, John Lennon, to name just a very few.

Philip A. Jimenez, musical mentor and original producer of the album, was the seed of the project. He was the person who first encouraged Sinem to record a debut album. Philip is most known for his work as producer and former member of multi-platinum selling band Wheatus, Gordo Gringo, and Easy Anthems.

Sinem, you've done it again...I knew all those years ago that you had something special. It's very exciting to have seen this project come to fruition. Thank you! ...and all the best to come.

This Girl can Entertain!
I had the pleasure to see Sinem perform at a West Seattle club. She is an exceptionally talented entertainer and I hope she get's that "big break" she deserves.

A great sound, with a cute -- even sexy -- voice and her music is very listenable. Seeing her perform made our visit to the club all the more worthwhile. We'll be following her promising career.

Sinem's smooth vocals will seduce your ears. What a great record! Buy it, listen, enjoy it, then request it on your local radio so everyone will get a chance to enjoy this great artist.

Amazing sound
I first heard 'A Certain Kind of Lovely' in 2005 and could not get it out of my head. So glad that she finally put out a CD because I cannot get enough of her amazing music! I am a huge fan of Bebel Gilberto and I think Sinem captures that warm, beautiful bossanova sound. This one's going to be on repeat for a long time!

How many albums do you rotate in your player at one time? What happens when you hook up with new music you truly love? I plug in and ride it all the way.
'When I Don't Sleep..' has obliterated the competition for my ear. Gone is the eclectic mix of Diana Krall, Shelby Lynne and Enya (no offense ladies). Sinem Saniye's varied latin beats are coupled with a sweet, expressionful voice and gorgeous melodies. She is both gifted and unique musically and lyrically.
'In My Slumber', my favorite right now, is a bittersweet lament, rich with originality and beautiful refrains. In it, a mature Sinem muses in pain about forgiveness and things unsaid to her deceased father. The sexy, heated love plea 'One Woman' is intentionally seductive and direct to the point. Sinem's enticing vocal and pounding rhythms render you subservient. 'A Certain Kind Of Lovely' is a breezy, altogether satisfying ode to the pleasures of being in love. With the jazzy 'Are We In Love', I'm reminded of Jewel. Cute lyrics and a bit of scatting from a smiling Sinem frame the question.
I can honestly say I'm not looking forward to her next record. That would be greedy! I've got my hands full plumbing the depths of this one.

Amazing debut and natural talent
I heard this fantastic smooth Jazz & pop songs for the first time on MusicXray,.
First thing on my mind by listening 'Are we in love' & 'Baba Bossa' hey that sounds just as the voice of Basia, the lady lead vocal of Matt Bianco in the the '80's.
Sinem is not alone smooth Jazz she mix it with pop influences.
I'm realy surpized by the sound of this new talent, an what a voice!
Rating of 4,5 stars isn't possible than more a 5 than a 4.
