Album Notes
Suburban Velvet Uprising
What is a SVU? It's a new emerging mind set that eschews standard suburban norms. Not quite a revolution - it' a velvet uprising. Little things like insisting on healthy organic food instead of fast food. Or riding a bike to the store, not just for exercise, but because it's unnecessary to drive. People tearing up their front lawns and planting their own vegetable gardens. A friend of mine and her family, to avoid waste, is NOT buying anything new for a year, though they could easily afford to. There is an endless list of things I could mention but the over all feeling (Obama '08!) of the SVU is of one trying to regain harmony with the world instead of consume it. A realization that we can't continue on the path we're on. I've been a middle class suburbanite all my life and things are getting interesting out here after many years of being ... the same. We change because we either "see the light" or "feel the heat." For one reason or another, change is coming to a suburb near you!

"I used to be in a one man band but it broke up. Now I'm in a two man band. One of the members is imaginary... I'm not sure which one."

Skyhead is a multi-instrumentalist who has been recording and performing in the Detroit area in a number of bands and as a solo artist for over 20 years including music in award winning animated films and a contributer to the Talking Heads Tribute CD which can be found at A steady diet of alternative public radio has probably ruined his chances of ever residing in a single style of music or of ever finding a band willing to create music that spans the many genres that interest him.

Good chillin
The CD overall is nice chill music to read a book with or arrange your comic collection. It's starts off a bit plain but as it progresses, lush sounds make you stop want you are doing and listen close. This is not riffy or hooky music. There is no pop vocal or chorus. It is a clever sound sketch.

Beauty out of Misery
For my money - this is Sky's most "ambient" instrumental CD. And I mean that in a good way. Recorded while "in misery", I suspect it will help alleviate mine the next time I'm there. I particularly dig "Summer Wires" and "Mouse No. 6". As always, the production values are through the roof (and that even inclues packaging, etc.). A great sounding, cool, and inspired addition to the Skyhead canon. Buy one, then go ahead and buy some his older stuff as well.

Four And A Half If They Let Me!
This is the best thing Skyhead has ever done in my opinion. I like music that creates pictures in my mind and evokes feeling and memories. Blank Suburbia does that for me. He's obviously an excellent musician and producer, but the bonus is you hear a story in the music that completes the package. One of the other things that attracted me to this recording, was the fact that I found melodies that immediately drew me in, as well as passages that revealed themselves after several listens. If your a fan of Eno, Fripp, and even Andy Partridge's Monstrance work, you'll love this. Highly recommended.

Similar to Kevbro's experience, some of the songs drew me in on the first listen of the cd. Others did so on subsequent listens. Having listened to the cd numerous times now, I really enjoy it start to finish.
