Album Notes
Smalltown Poets is back from a seven-year hiatus with an album that feels like a perfect Christmas gift from a longtime friend you didn’t expect to see. On Smalltown Poets Christmas, Michael Johnston, Byron Goggin, Kevin Breuner, Miguel DeJesus and Danny Stephens evoke the fun, hope and wonder of the Advent season with fresh arrangements of many Christmas favorites and three new original songs.

Smalltown Poets burst onto the Christian music scene with their Grammy-nominated self-titled debut on Ardent/Forefront (EMI) in 1997 and released two more albums with the Memphis based label. Three number one singles and a total of ten top ten radio hits helped garner two Best Rock Gospel Grammy nominations, seven Dove Award nominations (including best new artist) and a Billboard Music video award for the band. Their song Anything Genuine was featured on the platinum selling WOW 1999 compilation. In 2004 the band released It's Later Than It's Ever Been on BEC(EMI.)

The band regrouped in the fall of 2010 to begin production on their 5th studio album, Smalltown Poets Christmas. The band co-produced the project with former Smalltown Poets drummer Matt Goldman (Underoath, Third Day, Casting Crowns, Copeland).

Welcome back guys!
Nice, clean vocals and a broad mix of instrumentation that enhances it so well -- and all on a Christmas project -- fun! Great variety of familiar and fresh holiday tunes, and especially loving the update of a personal favorite -- "In the First Light". Merry Christmas right back at you SP!

Smalltown Poets Christmas
Smalltown Poets once again demonstrate their musical creativity with a nice mix of original and traditional Christmas songs. A terrific album for the Christmas season!

The Poets Are Back For The Holidays
Overall, this is a very solid Christmas album with some very strong original songs and some creative twists on classics that makes the record as a whole stand out amidst the wide range of other Christmas releases this year. The album is upbeat and lighthearted in the right places and reverent in others, and overall it is a very well-rounded collection of songs that makes me hope these guys share more of their music in the future... and hopefully not another seven years down the road.

Under the Radar

One of the Best Christmas CDs of 2011
This Georgia-based Christian rock quintet made a big splash on the scene with their 1997 debut album, which garnered 2 Grammy nominations. However, the band fell off the map upon their last CD in 2004. They’ve regrouped and put together a collection of holiday songs that really knocked my socks off. Here, you’ll find 7 well-executed remakes of classic carols, 3 instrumental interludes, 3 originals, and 1 cover (“In The First Light”) which I believe is the highlight of the CD. Smalltown Poets still show they have some creativity left in the tank and this release was a very pleasant surprise.

Return of Smalltown Poets
It has been too long since this talented group of musicians has produced some of their unique, entertaining and outstanding music for the public to enjoy! What a great collection of songs to celebrate the joy of this special season. Thank you Smalltown Poets and may we hear more from you in the near future!

Smalltown Poets Christmas
I enjoy the style of the songs. Each has it's own flavor. They did a terrific job!

True to the band’s sound but awash in creativity
Smalltown Poets Christmas is everything you want in a Christmas album (well, at least it's everything I want). It's got a smart selection of both familiar and unfamiliar traditional carols cleverly arranged together with a few originals mixed in, and it's all capped with a sense of fun that evokes the joy of the holiday spirit. The band enjoyed modest success with Christian radio last time around, and we hear they're making plans to record another full-length. This album shows they've got the power and talent to go any direction they choose now, whether it's exploring the vast indie landscape or treading the radio-friendly route taken by The Afters and The Swift or something else entirely. One thing is certain: this album is a great new beginning.

Great! Can't wait to play it for our Christmas Party!!
Great Album, I am sure it is going to be a hit at our Christmas Party!!!
