THE SMOKEY RIVER BOYS will participate in the OBAMA Liberty project for handicapped school children. Their #1 Greatest Country Hits package will feature the song “Lady Liberty” for 12 million school children.

Nashville – New York – Hollywood (CMA FEST 09) The legendary Smokey River Boys will participate in the OBAMA Liberty project for handicapped school children world wide with the release of “Lady Liberty,” a song written and available on the #1 GREATEST COUNTRY HITS package just released at CMA Fest 09 on Platinum Plus International Records.

The project which showcases the Statue Of Liberty song, tells the story of how important freedom is to the world’s needy children. This SRB #1 Greatest Country Hits package of 14 Billboard #1 songs celebrates the 40 year history of the Smokey River Boys on MCA Universal. The group which came to national prominence during the “O BROTHER” movie which starred George Clooney have 5 incredible albums out.

The #1 Greatest Country Hits package is without question one of their all time legendary best. 7 Grammy awards and a long successful history of country bluegrass titles form one of the most valuable song catalogs in ASCAP song history with Dueling Banjos, Best Of Banjo, O Brother, Down To The River To Pray and the “live” version on the Grand Ole Opry of Man Of Constant Sorrow.

The Smokey River Boys have participated in the OBAMA Liberty project and donated all the proceeds from their song, “Lady Liberty” to handicapped children’s charity. The Smokey River Boys are one of the premier Nashville based recording artists in the country/bluegrass genre. Three generations of Smokey River Boys have graced the MCA Universal label.

They were elected to the Legends Hall Of Fame in 2003, the West Texas Music Hall Of Fame in 2005, the Pioneers Of Bluegrass Hall Of Fame in 2007 and were nominated for the Texas Medal of Arts in 2008. Lead singer, Robert Metzgar penned the OBAMA song “Lady Liberty” about the Statue Of Liberty and he is published by Walt Disney Music ASCAP. Together, Robert Metzgar and his mother, Janie Metzgar have a 75 year history at ASCAP and are "ASCAP icons" in the songwriting business. Their release of Man Of Constant Sorrow appeared on the Americana charts for 144 weeks consecutively for one of the longest running ASCAP songs in history.

Earlier greatest hits packages of the Smokey River Boys appeared as Time-Life-Warner vinyl sets. As one of the more progressive groups in country bluegrass type sounds, the Smokey River Boys have agreed to release this package first through the world’s greatest indie site, and the digital downloads will be available for 30 days exclusively on and other digital outlets in partnership with CD Baby.

Along with songs like “Man Of Constant Sorrow, Down To The River To Pray, and O Brother,” the boys have brought their best & biggest hits back with songs like Number One Lady, Here’s a Rose, and When You’ve Got Each Other.” Future album projects are already in the works such as the Smokey River Boys In Hollywood, A Smokey River Boys Christmas and the sequel to the O Brother movie. The Smokey River Boys are extremely proud of the world’s most famous indie site, at CD BABY where all their product is available for mp3 or digital download. The boys are huge supporters of CD Baby which has delivered and sold more indie product than any other site in the music business.

Bluegrass Fantastic
WOW...this is such good country music. All the stuff you listen to on the radio today is so overproduced that you can't even tell what the words really are. No wonder the Smokey River Boys had all these hits. I love the fact that you can understand the words and feel the intensity of every single cut on this album. This is without question the greatest group of country songs that I have ever listened to in my lifetime of reviewing country music. Bring it on over...Smokey River Boys

This incredible Greatest Hits album is dedicated to Randy Hardison. Randy was a very famous hit songwriter & drummer who played on these songs. Randy Hardison left this life on June 4th, 2002 and I know there's not a day goes by that all of us don't miss his wonderful laugh and smile that he contributed to the music. God bless you & your family so much Randy and we know we'll see you on the musician side of Heaven one day.

Of all the great albums since 1950 that the Smokey River Boys have put out, this 9th album is without question their legendary best. All 14 of their Billboard hit songs in country music through the years. Three generations of hard work have paid off for all the boys.

Congratulations to MCA Universal for finally releasing all the back catalog from the 80's & 90's so we can enjoy these 14 hits. When You've Got Each Other made the hair on my arms stand up. What an incredible hit song.

Whatever you have to pay to get this album, it's worth every penny. USA TODAY gave the new release a five star rating. Congratulations on being elected to the Legends Hall Of Fame. You deserve it!

I greatly appreciated the significance and sound of "Lady Liberty". The words proclaim the heart of America. It reminds me of how our nation was created and to what extent we have gone through to keep that valuable liberty. I believe that in time, this song will be as legendary as the Smokey River Boys. Robert Metzgar's lyrics and music are a worthy contribution to the Legends Hall of Fame. I look forward to more outstanding music from such an exceptional artist.
