Album Notes
Smokin' D was born and raised in the midwest in the small town of Corydon, Iowa. He began his musical journey by playing drums in the school marching band. He even pretended to play trombone in the school's concert band, but blowing just wasn't his thing. Smokin' D started writing poems and songs in his feel-sorry-for-yourself teenage years, back when Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, and all the other alternative, post-punk, grunge bands were popular. He first picked up a guitar when he was 19, but didn't take it too seriously as there was too much partying to be done. After graduating from college, Smokin' D moved to North Carolina, where he met his now wife of 13 years.

Smokin' D continued to write songs and mess around on the guitar throughout his 20's and 30's. He and his wife wrote quite a few songs together as the Town Drunk Entertainers (TDE) in the early 2000's. When Smokin' D hit the age of 40, he decided to try a local songwriter's night in his now home town of Hickory, NC. After feeling the love of playing in front of others, Smokin' D decided that music was the therapy he had been needing his whole life. Since that time, he's been developing his unique style of suitcase-kicking, thumb-and-strum guitar pickin', and silly songwriting. Inspired by his wide variety of musical influences, you never know what to expect from a Smokin' D tune.

"There are plenty of fine-tuned artists out there playing pretty love songs or somber sad songs. I am not one of those artists. I'm quite deliberate in writing songs that are different than what you would expect to hear someone singing about. I sing about what most people would be embarrassed or afraid to talk about. I try to mix a dose of humor with the anger or frustration in a song to keep the listener wondering what is coming next. Songwriting is my therapy, so many of my songs pose a negative type of energy as they were written in times of turmoil, anger, and sadness. I don't care. I've got to get that shit out of my head so I don't go too insane. Maybe I'm Punk-Folk, or Punk-Something? I love all genres of music, so you may hear something different in each song."
