ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Smooth Maria live kind of far away, mostly north. Some of them live in five-story walk-ups. Some have live-in lovers. Most don’t. Some live with mice. Some live with good friends. The Smooth Maria are the flat dark plains on the lunar surface. MARia is how they say it. A lot of people enjoy smooth music. Those same people may or may not enjoy the Smooth Maria’s music.

Matt Kanelos sings and writes the Smooth Maria’s songs. The Smooth Maria point at each other when greeting. Smooth Maria cover 17% of the moon’s surface. They contain physical features like pits and channels, but lack large volcanoes. The Smooth Maria perform live, mostly in New York City. They all live in New York City. They are all relatively thin. Kyle Sanna plays guitar in the Smooth Maria. The Smooth Maria love each other as friends.

One of the Smooth Maria lives by an outcropping of big rocks. Tree-sized trees of heaven grow between the rocks. ‘Silent Show’ is the Smooth Maria’s first CD. Conor Meehan plays drums in the Smooth Maria.

All but one of the Smooth Maria have bachelor’s degrees in music. One of the Smooth Maria grew up right where the famous 2004 UFO sighting in Tinley Park, Illinois happened. The Smooth Maria’s second CD, ‘Paper Thin EP’ will be ready in October. Ben Gallina plays bass in the Smooth Maria.
