Album Notes
Snake Davis is often referred to as the UK’s leading saxophonists, playing alto, soprano, baritone and tenor saxes, flutes, whistle and shakuhachi. Snake has found his own style, which has resulted in a number of young up and coming saxophonists using him as their modern day role model.

His greatest influences have been King Curtis and the Brecker Brothers. He was brought up with Motown classics and soul music – all which have helped influenced the sound so many people recognize as “Snake Davis” . The press sometimes find it hard to slot him into a set genre, but that’s partly why so many people love his music, it is soul, funk, world jazz. On stage, Snake has a natural ability to tailor his music to suit the occasion, be it an intimate theatre setting, after dinner jazz or open air concerts. The most amazing thing to see is how people of all ages enjoy his music. Snake’s repertoire is wide and varied. The band play a mix of original compositions, soul funk jazz and pop covers.

Hysteria - Snake Davis by Jazz Lynx - Cafe Radio Jazz

Snake has enjoyed a lengthy career as one the premier saxmen in the UK. He's appeared with all the big names and for the past few years he's been a guest on a more or less permanent basis with Paul Hardcastle & The Jazzmasters. In addition Snake has enjoyed a substantial solo career with 3 releases to his credit. Hysteria released in 2003 is his most recent effort of new material. Although the album is already a couple of years old, it just made its way to this side of the water! In spite of this fact, we're breaking our own rules and made it eligible for our FT feature!!

A breach in protocol perhaps but I think we come off looking rather good on this one!! A rather excellent release, I could have chosen any one of several selections for our feature. Still, there is one track that, at least for me, stood out and said "play me!" and we have it for you on this show. And although we're generally not partial to covers, I'm making yet another exception. From Hysteria we'll hear Snake's take on The Hustle, the Van McCoy hit from '75 !!

Uplifting, Awsome - A great discovery
I took a gamble on this CD as I'd never heard of Snake Davis's music but liked the clips. Also a fan of Paul Hardcastle Jazzmasters & Acoustic Alchemy (he appears on their albums). This CD is brilliant - lots of variety. Somehow he makes the sax sing. A great CD - makes me smile when I listen. Worth every dime. Would love to see this man/Snake play live.
