ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Nothing is important, nothing is unimportant. The world is a game of shadows, but the images of things in our soul have a deep, bizarre reality”.
Herman Hesse
Silence. The natural habitat of poetry, where it is revealed to us. Inbetween these silences, the senses, the inner indefinite sounds, the reflactions, emerged over time the partnership between music and poetry in this cd , from an inner need that impressed itself each time at the moment of materialization. The instrumentation, the right moment and a secret voice linked music of Sofia Kamayianni and poetry of Sarandaris, Eggonopoulos, Kariotakis, Palamas, Polidouri, Mpaikas, Karatzas and Dimoula together in a united work.
Following on from her instrumental work The Dock and a subsequent appearance in the CD release by Athens University titled “All I Know Is How To Sing: Nineteen Composers Set To Music Poetry Penned By Kostis Palamas” Sofia Kamayianni presents a modern and creative exploration of the compelling and dramatic relationship between music and poetry.
The poetry of Sarandaris, Eggonopoulos, Kariotakis, Palamas, Polidouri, Mpaikas, Karatzas and Dimoula become a source of inspiration and are brought to life through exceptional performances by Dora Petridi, Annie Onoufriou and Elias Vamvakousis, accompanied by a talented instrumental ensemble.
Sofia Kamayianni’s original and multi-faceted musical personality is to the fore in this CD, with many different musical worlds opened up through her different approaches to the poetry: finely worked songs and instrumental pieces (involving flute, clarinet, violin, cello, doublebass and piano) combine with music and narration (featuring the exceptional voice of Aimilios Chilakis) and experimental soundworlds created from electronic timbres (featuring the voice of the unique Kiki Dimoula).

Musicians : Hellas Halkia flute, Chrysoula Georgaki clarinet, Irina Shalenkova violin, Vassilis Lykos violoncello,Vaggelis Zografos double bass, Sofia Kamayianni piano, computer sound processing
The CD was recorded in Reaction Studios by Lazaros Karayiannis, mixed in Prism Studios by Tassos Bakasietas and mastered in Athens Mastering by Christos Chatzistamou.
