Album Notes
Many of you may know Marla Sokoloff from her work as an actress in various films and television shows. For 6 years she spent Sunday evenings in our homes playing Lucy Hatcher on the Emmy award winning legal drama "The Practice." She also has appeared in many cult classic films including "Dude Where’s My Car?" as well as "Sugar and Spice." Most recently she played the innocent nanny Claire, who got fired for tempting her boss on "Desperate Housewives."

But what you may not know is that Marla is also an accomplished singer/songwriter.

Before you judge... just know that she finds the actress turned singer thing just as annoying as you do. It seems like every time we turn around some young starlet is debuting their video on TRL. Who knows how they find the time to do that and promote their clothing & perfume lines?

Marla Sokoloff is hoping you can make room for one more convert. The good news is that there is no clothing line and no stinky perfume. But she can’t promise that there won’t be any "stolen" sex tapes.

Growing up in San Francisco, she was heavily influenced by the sounds of Stevie Nicks And Carole King. She was also influenced by real life experiences such as her breakup with a long-term boyfriend, which she reveals in songs such as "I’m Done" and "Call Me Crazy." Unlike those other entrepreneurs, Marla co-writes all her music and has been playing guitar for over 10 years.

She lives in LA with her dog Coco (Chanel not Cox-Arquette) and spends her days making music and sewing guitar straps.

A marvelous musical piece for anyone to enjoy, truly a masterpiece.
The harmonically rythem of each song and the beat that makes one live in an illusion of a summer's day makes this music cd a delight for the ears and a pleasure for a trip on the road or just a night at home.

It was a suprise to hear Marla Sokoloff had released her own CD but at a first listen to the clips I was very intrigued. The CD is beautiful. The lyrics are what people today relate to and the instruments just compliment her vocals so well. My favourite track on the CD is definitely "Save Me From Myself". The guitar just sounds wonderful on this track. Overall, the production on the CD is great. It's a raw talent CD that I think 9 out of 10 people will enjoy if they give her a chance. I can't even compare her to anyone else..she's completely herself on this record and I'm dying to hear more!

"Grateful" will be your ipod's new best friend.

The cure for today's boring rock.
Albums nowadays are composed of one or two hit singles, with a bunch of fillers. This is not the case with Marla's album. It is a rare thing to come across an album where every track is good. It is even more rare that something this good comes from an actress. I find Marla's music to be very uplifting; perfect for when driving down a long stretch of road with the windows or the top down. She has surprisingly impressive vocal, songwriting, and guitar playing abilities. If one had to compare her works to other female artists, Michelle Branch or Jewel might come to mind; so fans of them may find Marla's album enjoyable. I give Marla's freshman album my highest recommendation!!! Act now and maybe you'll get a signed copy. Great deal for $10.

Great CD
After years of waiting this CD surpasses any expectation all of the loyal could've had. Do not wait - buy this CD now. This is some of Marla's best writing & singing work and needs to be heard.

Wicked Awesome!
This cd is amazing. It's become my new favorite. Not too many musicians are so honest in their must about relationships like "I'm Done." This entire album speaks to you and is a great listen. The songs something everyone can relate to.

Fantastic album, so worth the wait!!
The cd really shows off the talent of the band and musically it keeps you in good spirits without going from a quick song to a slow song and back again. Great for putting in your car and just driving! I was a fan of Marla back in the party of five days, congrats to the band/continued success!!!

Solid album -- would love to see live performance
Morbid curiosity of another actress turned singer is what drew me to her website (
The melodies and hooks turned a skeptic into a fan.

One of the reasons that I like this album is that it does not sound "packaged". The lyrics and melodies come across as personal statements/conversations and the sound doesn't feel "produced".

What startled me is that the videos of her performance had the same feel and sound. If you sound like the album when recorded across the club on video...that's talent.

I'm a bit more stingy with my ratings than others. If it isn't in my top-ten of all time (Dark Side of the Moon, Sgt. Pepper's, etc.) I won't give it 5 stars.
Rating: 4 1/4 -- and looking forward to live performances and future albums.
