Album Notes
Chicago jazz vocalist Solitaire Miles captivates the seasoned jazz veteran with mesmeric tone, conversational phrasing, and a sinuous sense of swing. Her unaffected delivery never draws attention to itself, allowing the lyrics to shine through. She presents each song in a sincere manner, intimating a supple delivery so the patois of each arrangement has a lasting effect on the listener. Her timing and style impressed Chautauqua Symphony Bassist Harry Jacobson enough to label her as "Billie Holiday with sunshine and air".

Her debut album includes some of Chicago's best performers, arranged by the great jazz violinst Johnny Frigo and incomparable pianist Willie Pickens, the recording reflects the laid back, forthright swing that is signature of the Chicago sound. Also featured is Chicago Sax Maestro Von Freeman, who keeps the music genuine and sassy. There is also a cameo from trumpeter Brad Goode and three live tracks recorded in New York with pianist Don Rebic.

Peggy Lee Is Reborn!
I have already listened to Solitaire Miles's self-entitled CD three times and I still cannot get enough. Her suave and sophisticated styling is reminiscent of the late, great Ms. Peggy Lee. The older standards are given their dues in this recording. Most noteworthy for accompanists is Don Rebic's melodic addition. An older jazz and blues person must have literally come alive. What a welcome supplement for all jazz vocal admirers. Hoping that Solitaire continues to create equally enjoyable recordings in the future.

Fantastic style!
I loved this album, I loved the players, how can anyone go wrong when they have Von Freeman, Johnny Frigo and Willie Pickens behind them? Miles' vocals are buoyantly supported by this dynamic group, and she swings perfectly with them. It's laid back, yet polished, taking the listener from up-tempo swing to low down blues, to enchanting ballads. Miles is a very skilled interpereter of lyrics and tempo!

Superb Ensemble
I'm from Chicago, and it seems that Miss Miles has collected all of the greatest talent from our city for this beautiful recording. Of course the best thing about the recording is that it was arranged by the late, great jazz violinist Johnny Frigo. I found this album a few days ago listed on Johnny's Wikipedia site, and it's on my wishlist now! Miles and Frigo compliment each other like chocolate and truffles; His masterful arranging and playing compliment her smooth, warm vocals like nothing I've ever heard! Willie Pickens, the King of Chicago Jazz, is also a masterful jazz pianist, and Von Freeman adds a bit of sass to the whole, beautiful thing. Bravo Solitaire!

Smooth as Chocolate on Silk
Solitaire Miles is a must for all jazz fans. This is a nice mix of songs all expertly rendered with accompaniments and some great violin by Johnny Frigo. The Feast of Fools podcast (show #699) takes all the credit for introducing me to this album. BUY IT, lie back and prepare to be transported away on a cloud!

Great CD!
I'll admit that I don't know anything about jazz or it's history and major artists. What I do know is that I enjoyed this CD immensely! Solitaire's smooth voice is really a treat. I immediately put several songs from this CD onto my iTunes play lists to listen to over and over.

Ahhh memories!
Listening to Solitaire reminds me of my Chicago days...and listening to her glorious voice live at the Gentry...I miss it...thank the lord she has cd's so I don't have to miss it all together!

Brava darling! You are amazing!

Sultry Voice
Solitaire is a great singer, I just listened to her album for the first time and I really loved her style. She delivers straight to you, and there aren't alot of cheesy vocal tweaks, or loungie kind of twists. She sings it straight and simple, and her voice is really beautiful, so she doesn't need to impress anyone with fancy tricks. She is uncomplicated and emotional, and that sells a song to me. I am also a HUGE fan of Von Freeman and I am glad to hear Vonski telling it like it is on this recording.
