Album Notes

HAVE YOU heard of Solo Down?

Chances are you know and love the melding of styles of American music (country, rock, roots, pop, and folk) Chip 'Solo' Down helped pioneer, and many others have enjoyed as sales from millions of albums over many years.

"I sing to let the happy times linger. That’s what makes me the hero or the fool"--Solo Down

Originally from Boston, Solo Down has led a full life’s journey that’s taken him over up and through the heart of America on the road that travels constantly on...through the trials, sorrow, and joy. Learning and hangin’ with musicians, some famous, many now gone, Solo found that expression is what makes the journey possible, and that expression must be, for him, a legacy of song.

Along the way Solo taught himself how to play a barnful of instruments and to sing with a brimmin’ heart, full sound, and a style like no other.

Coming full circle, Solo is now again in Boston (home to the Americana revival),"gittin’ it all down", celebrating his long journey,in portfolio of song. The result is a powerful gumbo of styles with a distinctly contemporary pedigree, with lyrics that speak of truths and happiness often left unheeded. Songs that convey the longing, sadness, hope, joy and salvation of the American spirit. Songs with a self-reliant synergy of composition, a rich and fully orchestrated ’wall of sound’ with guitar and keyboard emphasis, and high fidelity recording.

All done solely by Solo Down himself. With over a dozen instruments at play. Solo Down’s first album from his extensive songbook is called, appropriately: “Hero or the Fool”. And as either hero or fool, he steps out, one foot in front of another, to stake a well-earned claim in the legacy of American music

The buzz on Solo Down's HERO OR THE FOOL ---

"Loved it!..."--S.K.

"Wow. If Creedence Clearwater Revival, or the Band, came back they'd need to listen to Solo Down first to come up to speed!"--J.A.

"Amazing rockin' and twangin' raised up from the back 40! Why oh why Solo did y'all make us wait so LONG?"--I.S.

"Toe-tapping insight into the human condition with a distinctly American point of view"-R.M.

"profound,wry, and folksy"--A.E.

"vocals that break your heart-then patch it all together". --G.W.

"seasoned skill honed to a sizzle. New and refreshing."-M.B.

"Familiar but something new all together. If Roy Orbinson had been the inspiration for the 60's rather than the Beatles then the outcome at its height would have been Solo Down."--M.S

"Thanks for the best marriage yet of country and rock."-S.S.

"A master lyricist with a turn of phrase that haunts and amuses with equal portions of sympathy, compassion, and wit. "--C.R.
