Start with the right ingredients and the technical knowhow and you’re bound to cook up a storm. This is exactly what Son de Madre has done with their debut CD Rumberos. Cuban music is the basis for this tastily festive offering. Like the typical Cuban dish Arroz con Pollo, you start with the basic ingredients for the sofrito (flavoring sauce): olive oil, garlic and onion; in the case of the music of Son de Madre, the basic ingredients are the Cuban Son, Rumba, Cha-cha-cha and Bolero. Add to this the “chicken and rice” - the diversity and skill of Son de Madre’s members, who are from Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Israel, Italy and Venezuela and WOW - true delight! Once again we see the effect and the appeal Cuban music has had worldwide. Rumberos is a fine addition to any Latin music collection. This is music that you can dance to as well as listen to, over and over again. Like the first song on this exceptional CD beckons, “Vengan, ya la fiesta comenso”, “Come, the party has started”! – Don’t miss it!
