Album Notes
“…this is explosive, modern Cuban dance music, the sort that will be part of the definition of our times.” Peter Watrous - "La Timba Soy Yo" - Review @
Soneros Records announces the release of “Lolo”, the highly-anticipated fourth album by salsa powerhouse Soneros All Stars. Recorded in Havana, Stockholm, Rome and New York, “Lolo” contains six tracks of high intensity dance music, including arrangements by Jan Miklos Bogdan, Wilfredo Naranjo Jr. “Pachy” (Orquesta Revé), Arnaldo Jiménez (Los Van Van), Richard Ortega (Azúcar Negra) and Lesmer Solenzar (NG La Banda). Bogdan’s all-star team includes such Cuban legends as master percussionist Calixto Oviedo, veteran singers Sixto Llorente “El Indio”, Pascual Matos “Sinsonte” and Lesmer Solenzar with soneros José Antonio Rodríguez “Pepitín” and Pedro Lugo “El Nene” and Havana’s hottest young singer, Emilio Frías Peña “El Niño”. A truly international collaboration, horns were recorded by Patrik Skogh, Petter Linde, Nino Fernandes (SE), Patrick Cornelius (US) and Martin Richard Lehner “El Zorro” (CH).

On previous albums Stockholm-based Soneros All Stars has experimented with traditional son – “Marianao” – the changüí-salsa of Orquesta Revé – “¡Dime Nagüe!” – and songo á la Pupy y Los Que Son Son – “La timba soy yo”. With “Lolo”, Bogdan delivers a distinctive new sound that combines the elegance of son with the Afro-Cuban flavor of rumba and the urban intensity of timba, all overlaid with the extreme poly-rhythms of changüí. Each song reveals some aspect of the soul of Havana, sharing the enchantment of a city and her people and answering the question “What is it about Havana?” “Yanesito has hit this one out of the ballpark! ‘Lolo’ is 30 minutes of scorching dance music, impossible to resist and a must have for DJs.” Michelle White
