ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Songs For Pirates started out as a West Los Angeles bicycle gang when Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, Wallflowers) and Jessy Greene (Foo Fighters, P!Nk) discovered the joys of choosing bike rides over traffic jams. Biking around the glorious westside inspired them to create soundtracks to their pirate life which felt like they were stealing time, winning at the game of living in LA. Jessy and Rami have been playing music together supporting artists for years. They improvise together with uncanny precision, seeming to read from the same invisible sheet music, they know what the other is going to do next. Using layers of improvised performances they stealthily combine the organic with the inorganic, building around a framework of synthesizers and beats with simple, often effected string lines and breathy vocals soaring over top. With minimalist arrangements and a leaning toward melancholica reminiscent of The XX, Alt J and Lana Del Rey, Songs For Pirates sounds like unique electronica, carrying a lyrical message of individual power in awakening and universal connection.
