ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Son of Pearl’s latest musical offering entitled B.S.P. = Bassist, Songwriter, Poet, is the spoken word, new jazz Rhyme & Mellowism offering of the summer. Produced by Flight for FlightBoy Music and executively by Son of Pearl for Poor Robin’s Production, it’s the first vocalization of its kind for Son of Pearl since the “Comics Soul Trilogy.’ The Cosmic Soul Trilogy was mostly instrumental offerings, that gave birth to the term “mellowism” and such smooth jazz gems as “Profunkstakation, She Likes 2BOnTop, Red-Shirt-Blue Shoes and Y.C.F.M.C.T (You Can’t Fade me Come Time). The album is a collection of songs laced with R&B and blue-ism from the soulmine. It contains songs that were pinned and composed from the heart of the artist and the reality that love is the only truly lasting virtue that transcends the grave. The offering contains songs that reflex and release upon the travels of life, love and the lessons learned from living. Each song paints a portrait of a moment in life that we all share sooner or later. The cd opens with a melodic bass melody entitled Mellowistic Flight- “The Nod-Factor” (Bass Check) ends the cd with the opposite side of the bass with fire funk where Son of Pearl entices the listener to let the music move ya’ around particularly your head as in to nod with the 808 and his four-string bass, that’s all that he’s after. ” The cd continues with the realization that some songs can be appreciated and other song you can only pay homage to as in the Son of Pearl’s rendition of the Spinners hit I’ll Be Around”. Saturday Nite (Feenin 4 U) which is a flavored ode to late night fulfillment and longing for a lover that might be in mind’s reach but yet so far away in passionate terms. The only ballad” You Need a King (King Intense Nice Guy) brings the cd down to a blue light in the basement moment where chivalry is never dead with a southern gentleman.. The first offering of spoken word is called “3:46 A.M”. The song challenges the listener to think and to view what is really the importance of addressing a major issue. As the cd continues to showcase the ability of the bassist, songwriter, and poet he returns with BlakLuvFlava a kiss of praise to loving a woman. Huh-Huh (I’ll Be There 4-U) is a song that hints of the “I kind of told ya so” vibe when a lover finds that the love is never greener on the other side if love has a color anyway “The Heavy-D (R.I.P.) inspired 4th of Neveruary gives the promise of no matter what baby there is no need to rush I‘ll be around for you until the 4th of Neveruary (must be strong to add another month to the calendar). Each time the blue lights in the basement are not totally off the dance floor lights up like an old school juke joint, the following tune GotWhaChaNeed lets the groove re-wakening with a George Benson-ish guitar riff and the 808 drop for the old school dance movers. After a long day of work what woman does not want to be pampering a “lil bit”. As the cd moves back into a more serious tone the 2nd offering of spoken word “I.Y.K.M” leads to the path past the blue lights in the basement to the Red Light Special. Featuring the vocals of Bonnie Bonita the song leads off with “tell me your sins for your sins are who you really are” and the rest will follow suit when you listen to the song. Falloff picks up the tempo once again and dives into the psyche of what love could be if you just free fall and fall off into the object of your desires. A.A.E. allows the listener to seek the favor of love in seeking redemption in understanding that usually when a woman is right, she is usually right. As the musical adventure moves to a close nothing is possible without the reality that blessings are to be understood and appreciated and for there is nothing without the praise of the creator “God Can Work It Out” gives hopes to all that believe. As the cd close out the music takes flight to another plateau with Mellowist Flight. The out-tro just like the intro ends with Son of Pearl bass playing bring to the forefront that he is what he said that he is a bassist, songwriter, and bassist, so enjoy. Jerome Burgundy

A Bassist, A Songwriter, and Poet
The music of Son of Pearl is long overdue to the world , but to those of us who really know of his skills and actions are not surprised by the new CD and his offerings of musical creations. Each track brings with it a part of the artist, the man and the musician who shares his soul and heart felt vibrations. Featured tracks such as I'll Be Around (Spinners),The 4th of Neveruary and Mellowist Flight gives you the feeling of looking back as you travel forward into a time when good music meant to move you in one way or another. Spoken word tunes 1st Offering and I.Y.K.M. showcased the poet side of the artist. All in all the CD gives back much more than what you pay for it.. enjoy the vibe and Son of Pear.l Jerome S.

IF IT'S MAGIC...
I was introduced to the wonderful sounds of SON OF PEARL a few years ago. This new offering, B.S.P.=BASSIST,SONGWRITER,POET, is, in my opinion, the best yet.The unique, and dare i say it, sexy vocals offered up by this mellow bassist are indeed special. One of my favorites U-NEED-A-KING,is something us ladies dream of, and in this song,we find him!!Then there is the somewhat upbeat BLAKLUVFLAVA,that had me bopping my head and tapping my feet..wondering where the heck is MY BLAKLUVFLAVA!! Yes , there is something for everyone on this magical cd. THE 4TH OF NEVERUARY,with it's "new jack swing", got me up outta the chair to get my swerve on!Again, SON OF PEARL takes time to give praise TO HIM, who makes all things possible on "HE CAN WORK IT OUT"; Not too many artists take time to give thanks where it is due to HIM , through song , which i find very admirable.and i must not forget the featured vocalist ,MS.BONNIE BONITA, who gets it in on 3:46a.m(1st offering)and I.Y.K.M (2nd offering).so again , i am loving the sounds of SON OF PEARL and believe me...you will too!!!

Mellow Fire
Pure Mellow Fire, I love the album in more ways than one, from the opening intro where you know he shows how he can play and arrange a sound -canvas to paint the sky to the outro of just bringing the old school funk to make you nod your head. The songs all touch in such a way that leads to the reality that we all need a song every now and then, I thought it was well worth my cheddar to download cant wait to see the man live
