ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A witches' brew of tribal rhythms, fuzz bass, brooding vocals, and staccato piano, this feral effort was composed, played and sung entirely by one man, who therefore takes all the blame and/or credit. An alumnus of the Jacksonville, Florida blues band Worldwide Hoodoo, Son Powers composed and recorded quirky observations ranging from mind control, to civic responsibility, to unlawful flight across state lines, to sexual braggadocio, to the 9-11 attack, to a child's first prayer. And having no one to answer to, he did it exactly the way he wanted.

REVIEWS AND COMMENTS:

“Son Powers' new CD, "Install Me" delivers some seriously cool songs with his throaty call of raw vocals that come off as unpretentious, unique and dynamic. Completely fresh lyrics! Amazing overlays of his own multi-performance tracks. I especially dig the deep rhythmical and often dominant bass.”
--Jim Phillips, Surf, Skate, and Rock Artist

**********

“The recent 2009 release of Son Power's new album "Install Me" is an excellent excursion into back-to-roots blues songs with modern lyric themes. The title cut uses computer lingo as a point of departure for the story, which is combined with a dark, gritty blues music setting.

"Another outstanding song is called "Tumbledown Mind." This one also provides a modern approach to the lyric with a blues setting. The shift in the melodic phrasing between the verses and the title creates a "tumbling" effect that supports the title perfectly.

"Other cuts to check out are "Sassy Girl," "Contrary Woman," "Honeyboy," "Back To Jail," and his tribute to September 11, 2001 - "Nine Eleven Blues." Good stuff!”
--John Stevens, Associate Professor, Berklee College of Music

**********

"I knew Mr. Powers as a straight-laced businessman, but it turns out he is an ultra-cool bluesman and he has put out an extremely listenable, eclectic CD."
--Bob Bly, prolific author and music critic

**********

"Install Me" by Son Powers slaps you upside your head with a bag of songs all written, composed, and performed by THE MAN himself with haunting bluesy vocals. Like me, Son Powers is a big fan of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. As luck would have it, "Install Me" got me through some of the frustrations I encountered sweating over vintage model kits. "Life Is Sweet To Me" and "Sassy Girl" are two of my favorites and they keep this Finkster grooving while I’m wailing on the fantastic plastic!”
--Master Modeler Weldon McDowell, Jr.
