Album Notes
Three long years years in the making, OVA Records is honored to present to you our latest release, 'Untie Me' by the Artists Sophie Moleta and Holmes Ives. This 10 song Epic melodizes the passion, love and affection that two souls can share. In this intimate communion of music Sophie brings her voice and poetry to the love inspired songs of Ives. This album is pure expression of the heart in its most vulnerable state when its truest feelings can flow unbound, unfettered, 'Untied'.

'Only the heart can understand' x Sophie & Ives

How it came to be:
In the winter of 2002 U.S. based Holmes Ives was introduced to the Kiwi songstress Sophie Moleta . He had heard a song called "Love Has Come Again". It was through this song that Ives fell into the muse of Sophie. He contacted her to inquire about doing a remix and in that dialogue a friendship began that soon blossomed into a loving crush. In those tenderest of moments in the nucleus of that moment, the song 'Awaken' was born. To Ives 'Awaken' represented the transformation from the noise and chaos of the lost heart to the euphony it's strings make when the heart finds that which all hearts desire...

Once 'Awaken' was completed Ives sent his composition through the mail 12,000 miles away to Sophie in Australia. Unknown to Ives was that Sophie took his song , sat with it for days and worked with it weaving her poetry and voice into it's fabric. It was through these musically rendered love letters that "Untie Me" emerged and it was through these songs that the lovers could unite and traverse the distance, cross the ocean and make love through music.

The two tried to meet one another in person but as struggling artists they could not get the funds together to make the long journey. After 10 months without even a kiss the letters and music could no longer sustain the passions and for the sake of their hearts they had to let go. But this body of work remains and like a window to the heart, "Untie Me" gives us an intimate musical communion of the love that exists all around us, woven into the leaves and the trees and in the currents of oceans. It is the universal tie that keeps all life bound together and Sophie & Ives have given us a glimpse of it through these songs.

"However fleeting their time together, Sophie and Ives' lush body of work remains as an abiding, penetrative witness to their union. "Untie Me" is a sensitive, sophic portrayal of love at its most intrinsic. " -Larry Kraman Newport Classics

Purity, space, smoothness, excellence
Still one of my personal favourites. The music is so involving, the smooth vocals combined with an excellent instrumental background, that you can't just listen to one track and then stop. If you have a good set of headphones with an airy, spatial sound signature, you're doomed:)

'Untie Me' is sublime
Untie Me is purely, simply gorgeous. It makes me think of late summer nights and good wine--thoughts of lovers past...

simply superb
"Untie Me" has exquisite vocals backed with intensive & very supportive arrangements. After buying this CD you should spend five minutes finding Sophie Moleta's web site - and start getting what you can of her other work. There is nothing but aural beauty awaiting you.

Great Arrangements and above all Great voice
Sophie's voice is and will always be excelent, and if you add the arrangements made by Ives....well, it's the perfect match. 100% Recommendable. Greetings from Mexico City. ;)

Amazing! Well worth checking out.
Like many, I first became aware of "Untie Me" through the playing on of "Awaken". The sentiment expressed in this song, and in its companions, is heart wrenching and powerful. The arrangements are fairly sparse and the vocals are often very low key. Some lines are in fact whispered. All this adds to an intimate experience. If such an album appeals to you then I hope you will take the advice of this random Internet reviewer and pick this CD up. It is highly recommended.

Perfect simplicity
Ambient sounds, gentle beats and smooth voice - perfect match for everyone who is keen on Down Tempo. A must have!

Traveling on clouds of feeling..
Perfect produced music! Really sensitive! Clouds is my favorite track. Traveling on clouds of feeling..
