Album Notes
This album is full of empowerment, encouragement and energy. Marrying the styles of Neo-soul, Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop, to create a refreshing new sound that will relax your mind, invigorate your soul and enlighten your spirit. Passionate and intimate music that is soulfully displayed through self-produced, original tracks and self-written lyrics. This music reveals the melodies of the soul, giving you deep insights into Love, Life and Intimacy and allowing you to make that core-to-core and meaningful connection with me, as the artist. The powerful lyrics and dynamic delivery are captivating, set to rhythms that are entrancing.

I’ve been in love with words and music since I was babe. I have always found music to be the universal soul language that is fluent in every emotion. From rage, to love, to joy, to depression and everything in between; there is a song out there that poignantly expresses that emotion, in a way that we can’t help but to feel it! Being an emotionally charged, right-brained, creative being, coming from an extremely difficult and lonely childhood, music was always my way to relate to my own core. I was raised by a single mom who is a writer and a music lover. Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of my mother reading her poetry to me, while the sounds of 70’s soul filled our home. My love of marrying music and words together in a creative dance was innate, and it has been a life-long dream of mine to share this passion I have with the world in a completed album.

I’m excited about this first project and even more so about how it happened. You see, life got in the way and I had given up on my dream of completing an album. I moved on to other “more practical” things. But my soul was aching inside because I missed my first love. I finally decided to give in to destiny and go to music school, so I could pursue my dream. I entered a school-wide production contest with a Spoken Word piece called “You Missed It!” (titled on the album as, “If You Only Understood”), and I won! I had only been in school about seven months at that time and had managed to really excel in the study of music, and the staff was impressed with me. So impressed in fact, that one of my professors, who sits on the Grammy nominee board, encouraged me to put an album together that he would submit for a nomination for the 2020 Grammys!

So here it is! In less than a year’s time, I transitioned from a dead dream to a living reality. On August 2, 2019, this album was submitted to the Grammy board for nomination consideration. As of today’s date, I do not know what the outcome of that process will be. I only had two months to complete the whole project from scratch: the concept, the lyrics, the music, the recording, production and packaging – as a complete novice and with almost zero help and very little financial resources. I’m sure it is not the most professional sounding engineering of the industry, but as far as I am concerned, I’ve already won. I win because I didn’t give up on my dream. I win because I made the commitment to do something hard and finished it. I win because I stepped into purpose, no matter what it took! So please accept my invitation to make this download purchase, set aside 40 minutes to listen to this album from beginning to end, and take a journey deeper into The Universe, with SouLah the Legend as your tour guide!
