Album Notes
The Soul Merchants are a mighty 8 piece band hailing from the basements of Central Connecticut. Our sound combines a love of reagge and rocksteady niceness with the respect and nod toward the infectious classic Soul sounds of the 1960's. Featuring a full horn section, infectious farfisa organ riffs, sweet vocal harmonies and a guitar lead that would make Nigel Tufnal blush. The Soul Merchants have a unique sound while still staying true to their roots.

Arising out of the ashes of several prominant mid 90's New England Ska and Reggae bands, The Soul Merchants make up a virtual who's who of the CT Ska Scene. Former members of Ska King Crab, Nigel Six, Johnny Too Bad and the Strikeouts, Golgo 13, Natural Funk Selection, Throwing Star of David and so many more lend their ear and their stylistic touch nicely to the sound like spices in a thick, rich, chunky stew (vegetarian of course).

Excellent ska/reggae/rocksteady
I've been lucky enough to see the Soul Merchants on a several occasions. Although they tend to be lumped in as another modern ska band, they are probably more accurately described as a blend of reggae, rocksteady and soul. And they are GOOD. Boasting some nice vocals and a full horn section, the Soul Merchants compare well to their Jamaican idols. The CD is excellent, great from start to finish. Their live show is even better. If you happen to be in the CT area, check them out.
