Album Notes
Sound Circle sang and recorded in the Tank during two days in June 2017. A fortuitous combination of structural qualities in this old water tower creates an astonishingly long reverberation time, but what happens is much more than simply a long decay of sound. One's own sound sets the Tank sound into play--the Tank sings--and immediately the experience is about listening, about engaging with the Tank sound in a musical conversation, a kind of slow-motion acoustic choreography. These ten improvised soundscapes are intimately "of the Tank." They contain qualities of sound and a process of musical unfolding impossible to imagine outside the Tank. Individuals describing their experience often use language about healing, mindfulness, and trust, as well as curiosity, delight, and play. Recorded at the TANK Center for Sonic Arts in Rangely, Colorado (tanksounds.org). Produced by Bob Burnham.
