Album Notes
Space Captain was conceived of a cosmic supernova, an explosion so blinding, so great as to jeopardize existence as we know it. In a blur of infinite colors, emotions, and particles of sound, what was left behind was a new wave of music, a sound merging elements of psychedelia from the sixties rock phase of The Doors and Pink Floyd to more modern indie/alt rock acts such as Beck and The Pixies. This sound would challenge the tenets of popular music and culture, ever-so delicately warping them in the process.

Their debut release entitled Close Your Eyes...OK- Now Open Them is a progressive blend of poppy tunes, funky grooves, thrashing aggression, and psychedelic symphonies that comprises a sound entirely familiar and comforting, yet with a design quite unlike anything before it. The most traditional cheery pop song on the album, for instance, is directly refuted by the blatant statement of condemnation, "check it out now, it sucks when you’re around and you’re really pissing me off."

This ever-prevalent sense of humor and their fascination with the abstract, coupled with devices such as colorful imagery, delayed delivery, and distorted guitar and vocals, enables them to conquer a number of classic popular music themes in a way that makes room for synthesized space sounds from beyond. For example, walking away from broken relationships is something universally understandable and applicable, yet usually confronted with polite grace rather than intense guitar solos as in "It’s a Spiral Abyss." Nothing on this album is of the ordinary.

The greatest album since Remain In Light by The Talking Heads!
This is a fantastic album. If you're into great alternative rock, such as Weezer, Pavement, Talking Heads, The Pixies, The Breeders, Beck, The Meat Puppets, or Ween, then you NEED this album. Space Captain's debut album is also essential listening for fans of great psychedelic music, like Pink Floyd. I recently rediscovered this album and it hasn't left my CD player for three weeks.

SpaceCaptain = RAD
This is a great album. I listen to it over and over in my car and on my ipod. The album is so original, like a breath of fresh new england air.

Blessed Be!! Oh My Gawd!! This is some fine grade Bud!
This is an amazing album. No Joke! The songs are bubble gum poppy goodness, filled with lots of swirly trippyness. These tunes will stick in your head, and you'll want to listen to the album again and again. It is very refreshing! No Cheese, they keep it real. Even if you've never heard of Space Captain, this album will make you a huge fan.

I cannot stop putting this album on repeat. Everyday.
When I bought the cd from the guys of space captian in the parking lot outside of warped tour, I thought it'd be another one of those bands that I'd let the cd fall and forget about. It's completely not true. I've yet to let this disc out of my player, and I find myself with the songs in my head even while not listening to it. Space Captian is really one of the most original bands I've heard. I love their sound- their lyrics- everything. It's deffinately worth purchasing.

I used to record above these guys (also on an 8-track reel to reel), they were the only band in the building that I didnt mind leaking into the mikes.
