Album Notes

On this CD, "A SONG FOR YOU", Jimmy does it all. His deep velvet tones proves without a doubt he is a balladeer extraordinaire. The ballads along with a little blues, country and jazz make this a CD for listening, and relaxing. A CD I know you will enjoy *********

JIMMY SPENCER started his professional career after an honorable discharge from the Navy when he formed his own band and played the Cotton Club in Oklahoma City.

Harold Austin, leader of a traveling band, persuaded Jimmy to give up his own band, leave Oklahoma City, and travel with his group as the featured vocalist. After a year with Harold Austin, Jimmy moved back to California, and joined a group called the Multi-Sounds and worked the Playboy Circuit for one year, before deciding to become a single.

Influenced by the late great Nat King Cole, Spencer developed a smooth relaxed style and a polished act. Even the great Tony Bennett was amazed at Jimmy's style and performance while catching his act at Monteleone's West.

Jimmy has played at the following clubs and has been asked back many times.

In the Los Angeles area, he has appeared at the:

Beverly Hilton, The People Tree,
Westside Room of the Century Plaza Hotel, Carmelo's,
Ambassador Hotel, Stevie G's
Pied Piper, The Money Tree,
Melody Room, The Smoke House,
Golden Gallion lobster House, Mr. B,
Colombo's, Monteleone's, The Warehouse,
Millineum Biltmore, Spazio's,Charlie O's Jazz Club,
Four Points Sheraton LAX, Cavallino's,Barone's.

Jimmy also appears regularly in various parts of the United States and Canada.

Jimmy was featured with Senator Eugene J. Wright Ensemble at the National Film Society Awards Dinner at the Beverly Hilton. He also appeared as guest entertainer at the Annual Installation and Awards dinner for the Women of the Motion Pictures Industry at the Century Plaza. Jimmy performed at the 100th Birthday Tribute to Bob Hope in May, 2003, along with Mickey Rooney and comedian Tom Driesen.

Jimmy's appearances on stage, TV and movies:

LA Jazz Caravans
Jazz Festival in Santa Barbara
Playhouse Theatre Tribute to Golden Age of Radio
TV Video with Jewel "Break Me"
TV Movie "Holiday Heart"
Pete L'Angelle's City of Music TV show
Cover of "Our Magazine"
TV/Cable Show - Jimmy was the featured artist on "The Daryl Show" with host Daryl Goins.

Jimmy has had the opportunity to work with many of the top jazz greats. One of the things that Jimmy has found rewarding and educational and most successful is having the chance to play with great musicians.

Currently, he is working with, " The Karen Hernandez Trio", one of the best.

More to love about this CD....
I heard PLEASE SEND ME SOMEONE TO LOVE on the local jazz station, loved it, bought the CD and now, well now, it is one of my favorites. The songs are all wonderful. I especially like I GOT IT BAD AND THAT AIN'T GOOD and a ballad I don't remember hearing before,IF YOU EVER LEAVE ME. Jimmy Spencer has a great sound and a terrific voice.
Thanks Mr. Spencer for the hours of listening pleasure.

Jimmy Spencer - What deep mellow tones-I was lost in the beautiful ballads.
Just browsing the CD's available and ran across this one by Jimmy Spencer. He has such a beautiful mellow tone and such an assortment, something for everyone's taste. I'm sure I'll be playing it over and over again. Ballads and blues - what more could I ask for. The ballads are so romantic and would certainly put anyone in a mood for a relaxing evening, a glass of wine, soft lights and this CD by Jimmy Spencer. I hope there are more CD's in the works for this artist. Way to go Jimmy!

While browsing I ran across this sensational find. A wonderful, expressive velvet voice - that's Jimmy Spencer. Singing everything from love to heartache, jazz and blues - what more could I ask for. The musical background is such a compliment to the sounds of Spencer.
I will listen and listen and listen....Thanks Jimmy!

The man's tellin' it
This CD has a subtle way of pulling the listener in quite easily. The lean studio production enables Jimmy Spencer's wonderful emotional style to be center stage and that's such a good choice! This man has stories to tell and isn't holding back in any way. The tune choices are meaty. Love it.

How romantic. Loved the ballads and the storytelling...
A great CD for anyone. A good collection of songs from a very talented singer - Jimmy Spencer. I really loved the ballads and he sings them just as if he is telling a story. What warmth! Being from England, I hadn't heard of Jimmy Spencer before and thought I'd give his CD a listen. It's fantastic and well worth it. More please Jimmy!

The voice that moves me....
Way to go Jimmy Spencer! What a voice! WOW! Great CD. The songs, the melody, and, of course, the voice that moves me.
