The Old Man and the Old Woman

by Spencer & Rains

Album Notes
Spencer & Rains play old time music. Tricia Spencer is a Kansas fiddler who grew up learning the tradition of old-time music from her Grandparents. Howard Rains is a Texas artist and fiddler whose twin obsessions are painting and playing traditional American fiddle music.
Together, Spencer & Rains play old time fiddle tunes and sing old songs in the style of their home states while also exploring other American regional styles of fiddling. Both multi-instrumentalists deeply absorbed in traditional music, Howard and Tricia preserve, present, and teach old time music while at the same time making it their own. Not only do they love to play dances, festivals, and house concerts, Spencer & Rains are highly sought after

I Love this Album!
I love this album. There’s great fiddling, including great fiddle duets, with guitar (and occasional banjo-uke) accompaniments that are just right. You’d expect that from two very accomplished fiddlers. But it’s the wonderful singing on this album that makes me want to talk it up. My favorite is “Roustabout,” the opening track. Then maybe “Say Darlin’ Say.” Listen to these and you’ll see how Spencer and Rains can take a good fiddle tune and fill it out into a good tune and then some! Howard Rains has that beautiful old-time feel to his voice – lovely, plaintive and utterly catching. He and Tricia Spencer sound like they were born to sing together – their harmonies are perfect. Fiddlers know they should have this album. But if you love good old-time singing, you’ll want it, too.
