Album Notes
These songs of Spike Flynn reflect a range of concerns - from do we have free-will and if not how can we still live meaningful lives (Fate and Freedom) to issues about the nature of reality (All You Lonesome Hobo's). Included are songs about the loss of, or disillusionment with, a childhood "hero"- which reflects the fragility of our lives and how they can easily go wrong (Hero's Mask) and a song about reincarnation (Reincarnation Train Whistle Blues) - obviously a light hearted look at the subject! All of the songs on this album contain interesting and at times challenging ideas, even the out-there out-take bonus track Thank God I'm Straight. These songs are bedded in a tradition of country and blues music with great fiddle, mandolin and guitar work from supporting musicians Andrew Clermont and Tony Green. Spike Flynn, is a terrific finger style guitar player in his own right. Many of Spike’s songs are of people who emerge from a ‘dark night’ with a story to tell.
