Green Olympics tour 2008: summary

Green Olympics – a musically produced theatrical, educational, environmental social protest show, presented acoustically by West Coast folkie – singer/songwriter & rock musician,“Spirathon.” Accented by projected photography from Eagleridge Bluffs, Larson Wetland and the beautiful West Coast of Vancouver, British Columbia, Green Olympics tells the true story of Eagleridge Bluffs & Larson’s wetland, the subjects of a fierce environmental battle to protect two rare ecosystems against a four lane highway, after being promised a “Green Olympics” and a tunnel.

The show examines the role of environmental activism, social protest music, the supposed green values of society, media manipulation, political promises, rare endangered species, environmental law, and where each of us can play a part as individuals. Presented with a touch of comedy, through the eyes and narration of Spirathon, the disillusioned musician tastefully debunks the myth of Vancouver’s 2010 green Olympic legacy, through original music and songs by other artists such as Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Grateful Dead, Blue Rodeo, Tom Petty, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin, and Matthew Goode. Green Olympics tells the story of a broken promise, the continued destruction of our natural environment, and those who rise against it.

"We did not seek and celebrate the successful Olympic bid in order to discover that our own home ground was to be violated in such an egregious manner."

... Wade Davis National Geographic Ethno botanist
