ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Spire Chamber Ensemble is a virtuoso choir and orchestra. Our award-winning ensemble comprises distinctive solo artists who are also committed to the highest level of ensemble performance. These musicians travel to Kansas City from around North America to perform together, providing our audiences with a rare level of choral music making found anywhere else in the country.

Established in 2010, Spire has quickly evolved into a national phenomenon, lauded for artistry, innovation and mastery at making music that matters to audiences throughout the country. Now in their 8th season and performing throughout the Kansas City region and on tour, Spire is regarded as one of the preeminent choral orchestral chamber ensembles in the United States. Led by Founder and Artistic Director Ben A. Spalding, Spire performs repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant and baroque classical masterpieces with period instruments, to Duruflé and newly commissioned works by this country’s leading composers including recent commissions by Jake Runestad, Zachary Wadsworth, John Muehleisen, and James MacMillan. The alchemy of these masterful individuals come together to create the Spire Chamber Ensemble.

Ben A. Spalding has quickly established himself as an exemplary conductor, creative programmer, composer, arranger, keyboard artist, and arts entrepreneur whose skills are increasingly in demand. He has led the Spire Chamber Ensemble and Baroque Orchestra to acclaimed success, receiving rave reviews for his work with the music of contemporary American composers as well as historically-informed interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire. He was a student of renowned conductor and composer Z. Randall Stroope, and has also studied conducting and church music with Sir David Willcocks in Cambridge. He is sought after as a clinician, most recently leading Festivals and Honor Choirs throughout the Midwest. Spalding is also active as a composer, regularly accepting commissions and is known for his creative improvisations. As an educator, he has held positions at the high school and university levels. In addition to his work with Spire Chamber Ensemble, Spalding is Director of Music and the Arts at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, KS, where he has built one of the most prestigious concert series and arts programs in the region.
