CALL THE RAIN REVIEW

Featuring the track the should have been on the Spider-Man soundtrack and a song that has a 75% success rate of turning on the tears, Spirit Creek's 5-song EP "Call The Rain" sets a standard of what melodic power rock should hope to be. Guitar-rock anthems mix with heartfelt ballads to provide a backdrop for insightful and personal songwriting.

To fully appreciate Spirit Creek, time must be spent on the band's web site. Founder and front-man Doug Shea's personal diary provides insight to the music that adds another level to the listening experience. The searching 'Is There Someone Out There' applies to anyone wondering if there is someone out there just for them. The track takes on new meaning, however, when taken in context with Shea's personal struggles maintaining a relationship under a steady burden/blessing of life on the touring road.

The guitar-driven '...and together' inspires, and rightly so, considering it was penned specifically for the Spiderman movie soundtrack. Reading about Shea's fascination with the super hero, the track's exclusion from the soundtrack becomes almost criminal. Commenting on the realization that the song didn't make the final cut, he states "I just wish that sometimes, someone would stand up for people that believe in something so strongly, they would die for it." Not sure if ol' Spidey deserves the sacrifice, but the underlying sentiment is admirable.

'Why Ask Why' is the epitome of tear-jerk storytelling. Depicting the tragedy of a young couple with only months left together due to terminal illness, the impact of the song took me by surprise. The first spin caught me in a most un-male moment, blubbering like a guy hog-tied to the front row of a chick-flick festival. Shea's vocals cut like a knife, driving home classic lines such as "Will you love me the rest of my life?... No, I won't love you the rest of yours. I will love you the rest of mine." *sniff* It still gets me.

Spirit Creek has garnered a much-deserved loyal fan base through rigorous and persistent touring. With powerful and passionate songwriting, "Call The Rain" demonstrates that they are teetering right on the edge of being discovered.

One word....AWESOME
Spirit Creek has a lot of great music, but some of the songs on this EP are awesome, especially when you hear them live. I strongly recommend buying this CD and then finding out when and where they are playing and catching a show.

This Band Rocks!!!
I was hooked from the first note of the first song. Now I can't stop listening to this CD. I'm just blown away that a band this talented has not been scooped up by a label. I think Spirit Creek is better than 90% of the crap I hear on the radio. Keep it up guys!!!

#1 Spirit Creek Fan

Spirit Creek proves to be awesome time after time!!
In my opinion, Spirit Creek's Call the Rain CD has some of the best music ever created by this band! The lyrics are thoughtful and the music is a range of slow ballads to rocking hard songs. Songs like Why Ask Why and Is There Someone Out There deal perfectly with struggles that everyone goes through on a daily basis and I think most people will be able to relate to them. I highly recommend this CD to any fan of deep, soulful music and lyrics.

Spirit Creek has delivered another powerful, meaningful release
From Doug's always-soulful lyrics to Seth's subtle but effective tonal additions, Spirit Creek has maintained their rock-solid sound on their Call The Rain EP. The honesty in this release, unlike many other bands of the same genre, does not in any way diminish the music's power -- instead, it gives the listener a real reason to feel the music, in the truest possible sense. This is a record Milwaukee must honor and acknowledge, and these are songs I will listen to again and again.

My first Spirit Creek CD and forever a fan
I listened to the Call the Rain CD after seeing Spirit Creek in concert. It was the first Spirit Creek CD that I had listened to. Once I did, it clinched me as a forever fan. The lyrics and accompanying melodies stuck with me in a very positive way...long after the songs were over. It's biggest downfall is that it only has five songs. I wanted to hear more and couldn't wait to purchase another CD.
