Album Notes
*This album contains the song "Skinny"-by The Spongetones-as heard on ABC "World News Now" every night on "The Skinny" section of the show!*

Their first three CDs, Beat Music, Torn Apart, and Where-Ever-Land were all three very positively reviewed in Rolling Stone Magazine.

This, their fifth record was released on Black Vinyl Records also to receive much critical acclaim.

By incorporating their trademark stance of sincere power pop with a heap of heady psychedelic madness and even a touch of Claptonesque guitar moves, the band skillfully explores and embraces a novel territory on the positively awesome Textural Drone Thing.

The album is clearly highlighted by the brilliant songwriting of Stoeckel, Walters, and Hoover, and as an added bonus, famed country popster Bill Lloyd teamed up with Hoover to write a trio of tunes for the album.

Music listeners far and wide are sure to appreciate and enjoy Textural Drone Thing, while radio programmers across the land will no doubt spin the daylights out of the disc. (quote by Beverly Paterson)

Note: The cd itself included in this Black Vinyl packaging is a new artwork design by Michael Slawter, and is a second pressing-pressed from the original master!

Clever, well-crafted pop songs and "New Oldies"!
A friend of mine introduced me to this album, she told me it was "Really Good" and she was right! After hearing just two songs, I logged onto CD Baby and quickly ordered my own copy.

It's an over-simplification to say this album is "Beatle-esque" (as is much of the Spongetones work). Yes, it is quite Beatle-like but you will hear a lot more musical textures throughout the (generous) twelve-song offering in "Textural Drone Thing".

"Better Luck Next Time", for example sounds (to me) like a cross between the Grass Roots and the Hollies ... on their best days. You might hear a little bit of the Dave Clark Five and a little bit of the Kinks in "Rattle My Chain".

There is no filler material on this album; it is a twelve-song presentation, of new, original material that sounds somehow like a collection of treasured "oldies".

Since ordering this, I have heard three other Spongetones albums (and ordered three more of my own). I consider "Textural Drone Thing" to be one of their best.

Back to the Beatle-esque point: the Spongetones never disappoint in this realm and on "Textural Drone Thing", the song "Whenever You're Around" hits the Beatles sound squarely and with pinpoint accuracy! It is, quite simply, one of the very best songs I've heard by any band. Period.

If you've got a little bit of extra pocket money, I strongly recommend you log on and buy this album quickly. If you've got even more than that, I recommend you rush out in a buying frenzy and buy all of the Spongetones albums .. just remember to buy Textural Drone Thing first.
