Sure Opened My Mind Up
I come to Squid from the other side of the tracks, a lover of traditional chamber music, especially late Beethoven. In fact, when I first heard about Squid I laughed, because I had not even heard of some of the music they were covering. Then a friend dragged me to one of their shows, and I realized how lucky I was. Four incredibly talented musicians were taking pop songs, rewriting them for string quartet, and I absolutely loved it. I now catch as many shows of theirs as I can, give their CDs as birthday and dinner gifts, and am of the firm belief that, given what they have done to the music, they should refer to it as their own (crediting the composers, of course), and not simply refer to it as their cover of some famous pop group.
