Album Notes
Polarized of Stakbabber contains (on vinyl) mostly songs with pop structures. Supported by simple but effective and steaming grooves of drummer Ollie Schmitz and percussionist Rudi de Graaff (Gotcha !, B-Movie Orchestra) front man Mick Ness targets catchy and danceable songs with a dark undertone. The singer often deploys a distortion effect on his voice. That gives a psychedelic edge to the sound. But because the music of Stakbabber has much more a staccato upbeat undertone instead of a floaty, melancholic sound it is no pastiche.
The seventies and eighties are back enormously popular. This is reflected in contemporary clothes, interiors and design in general, and you can also hear it in the music. In this retro wave would Stakbabber may well be riding. Especially with songs like Endurance, with its catchy choruses Stakbabber guarantees an evening qualitative groove rock with a postpunk- and darkpop edge.
