ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Imagine Joe Satriani jamming with Orbital and Prodigy..." -- listen.com, on STATE4

Start with one guitar with a split personality -- half the time it sings sweet and beautifully, the other half it spends growling metal influenced shred.

Marinate the guitar in a sauce of equal parts techno synth, wild dance beats, and complex drum'n'bass arrangements.

Top this with a cup of dark ambient sound, and finally add a sprinkle of world music spice. Bake at 350 for 71:19 (total CD playing time) and cut into 14 tracks. Serve hot.

Crossover fusion just doesn't get any cooler than STATE4's self titled debut release. It tastes exotic, it tastes unique, it tastes one-of-a-kind. Yet no matter how much you listen to this album you will always be ready for seconds. Check it out!

STATE4 plays a lot of different types of music. Some is calm, some is more aggressive, and some is just plain beautiful. They do ambient music, techno, rock, funk, and other genres. Anyway you look at it, their music is a success. TouCanDo.com http://www.toucando.com/music/bands

Gnick, aka Nick Mitchell has put together a wondrous collection of self-produced songs on this long playing CD (over 70 minutes). Stimulating, insightful and high tech adventures into the world of Ambient, Techno/Trance, Rock, Jazz and New Age. There are other influences as well found throughout this pleasurable assault of the mind, body and soul. The music is Techno/Rock based. That particular style is used effectively as a springboard to venture into a more wide range of musical journeys and tasteful expressions. The recent experiments of blending techno and rock have consummated a reciprocal relationship encouraged by each genres excellent compatibility factors. A stylish diversification and intelligent mixture is the attraction. Gnick utilizes every instrument to it's most fullest potential. After hearing Jeff Beck's most recent outing I was totally enamored with the sounds I heard and craved for more, this CD satisfied my desires. The jumpy, hyper speed induced techno/trance is given more depth and energy with biting guitar chords weaving in and out of the layers of synthesized delight. Injections of piercing and powerful electric guitar surges bring many of the songs to their apex and suddenly to an abrupt yet beautiful crescendo. Every aspect of music as we have come to know it today takes on a different light. The sometimes subtlety playful nuance's of techno give it all an airy yet powerful presence as you become one with the walls of sound and excitement. What is so interesting about the combinations of sounds that are presented is that the techno seems to fit so amazingly well with all the styles covered on this disc. The rush of excitement and energy, tenderness and warmth, relaxing and soothing, what's your pleasure?, it's all here on this amazing piece of work. The limitless boundaries of music and technology are merged to make this a totally enthralling and mesmerizing experience. One inspired and creative artist gives you the gift of heaven, his interpretation of music. Nick Mitchell gives a superb performance and gives notice that he is a talent to be reckoned with. -MuzikMan/September 28, 1999
