ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A contra dance band featuring flying fiddle & mandolin harmonies with solid foot-happy drive. Happily playing Irish, old-time, French Canadian, New England, and modern tunes and finding new ways to add variety and spice to traditional tunes and songs. STEAM! is Dave Firestine, Alice Boyle, Robert Rosenberg, and Claire Zucker.

These four long-time friends have each played in their own bands for years, but in 2010, they took the leap into this cross-continental venture. Now, they combine their music and energy to fill dance halls from coast to coast and ta da.... have released their first album, Jackalope. Wait- and how did this happen, you say? One word: Winfield!.... Dave is the jam meister at the Carp Camp, at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield Kansas, and has been for 30+ years. Robert has been center-jam guitar extraordinaire guy for 20 of those years. Then about 2006, Alice and Claire started making the trek and the musical adventure began.

Dave and Claire both hail from Tucson, Arizona and when there, they play as a duo called Púca (www.pucamusic.com). You can hear more of their playing and singing on their four recordings with the band Round the House and also Dave with the Privy Tippers (also available through cdbaby). Now Dave lives part time in Colorado where you can find him at jams, session, contra dances, etc. Alice and Robert now live in Manhattan Kansas, although Alice is originally from Canada and Robert is from Colorado where you may have heard them playing in various bands. In their new home, they are the Dire Ducks and often combine forces with other great Kansas musicians to play contra dances.

Ok, that is a bunch about the band... but what about their music? What you really need to know about STEAM! you can hear on the cd or at shows and dances as they tour about the country (which they do a lot of). This band cooks, rocks, exudes fun and excitement and camaraderie. This band has fun playing together and feeding off each other's musical inspiration. They love tunes.... really love tunes... all kind of tunes and songs too! You can hear this and the dancing energy in the amazing collection of different styles and genres represented in the tracks of Jackalope.
