Album Notes
The Sterling Duo members have played together throughout Los Angeles for over ten years. In their debut album they are joined by other world-class musicians from Los Angeles.

Sandy Kipp Iles, flutist, is an active performer and instructor in the Los Angeles area. She received a Bachelor and Master of Music with Distinction from California State University, Northridge. Sandy has performed with such orchestras as the Long Beach Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, MUSIQUE, Pacific Symphony, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Opera Pacific, Moscow Ballet Orchestra, Los Angeles Opera, Symphony in the Glen, Glendale Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony, Riverside Philharmonic, Los Angeles Classical Ballet, and New West Symphony among others. Sandy is the founder of Sterling and Strings Chamber Music and was a member of The Nuance Ensemble, Artists-in-Residence at Moorpark College.

Sandy began teaching privately in 1979 and is on the Music Faculty of CSUN. She has also been on faculty of the Idyllwild Summer Music Festival, Pepperdine University, Moorpark College, Glendale Community College, and Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. In addition to Flute Performance, Sandy has taught Music History, Entrepreneurship, Theory, Appreciation, Wind Masterclass, Chamber Music, and Music Fundamentals.

Sandy worked for 7 years as a contractor for Television and Film, is the Director of the Sterling Flute Choir and creator of the California Music Merit Program. Sandy lives in Glendale with her husband, Alex Iles.

Jenni Olson is an active orchestral and chamber music performer in the Los Angeles area. She is currently principal flute with the Stockton Symphony and second flute with the Long Beach Symphony and Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra. As a freelance musician, Jenni has performed with prestigious groups such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera and Pacific Symphony. As a recording artist, Jenni can be heard on TV and film soundtracks as well as her six solo albums. Her most recent album, The Dreams of Birds, is on the Delos label and is distributed by Naxos. She also teaches flute at Pasadena Conservatory of Music and Citrus College. Jenni received her MM and DMA from University of Southern California where she studied with Jim Walker. Named "excellent player" and "enterprising young harpist" by the Los Angeles Times, Alison Bjorkedal's notable chamber music performances include the world premieres of William Kraft's Encounters XII for harp and percussion; Anne LeBaron's HSING for solo harp and LeBaron's "Some Things Should Not Move" for soprano, flute, harp and double bass; and Wadada Leo Smith's Ten Freedom Summers, a 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

In the studio and stage, Alison has performed for pop music artists, as a chamber musician, and for the motion picture and television industry. Notable recordings include Grammy winning Harry Partch "Plectra and Percussion Dances", Southwest Chamber Music's Complete Chamber Music of Carlos Chávez, Volume 4 and William Kraft's Encounters, both Latin-Grammy nominated. She accompanied singer Andrea Bocelli and David Foster in PBS Specials and appeared on the Tonight Show for artist Salaam Remi.

Alison was born and raised in Kennewick, WA. She earned her Masters and Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in harp performance from the USC Thornton School of Music and her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oregon.

Canadian-born violist Andrew Duckles leads a diverse musical life as a recording artist, chamber musician, soloist and teacher. From a very tall family of musicians, Andrew is the “runt” of the Duckles family, standing at mere 6’4”. Formerly principal viola of the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet orchestras, Duckles now makes his home in Southern California. Duckles began his orchestral career with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and has made appearances as principal viola of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Long Beach Symphony. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Duckles appears regularly as a guest artist on a number of chamber music series throughout the United States and Europe, frequently sharing the stage with the Alexander String Quartet and the Los Angeles-based Capitol Ensemble. Andrew teaches viola and chamber music at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and Biola University and is the artistic director of an annual summer chamber music institute for young musicians in Cambria, CA.
For over fifteen years, Mr. Duckles has been in high demand as a recording artist for multitude of studio recording projects for television and motion picture soundtracks, including the upcoming film "Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens". His hobbies include cartooning, soccer and wrestling with his two young sons. Andrew Duckles is married to culinary genius, master educator, and French horn player extraordinaire Laura Strand. Together, they live in Belmont Shore, California.

Born in Long Island, New York and raised in Orange County, California, Steve Velez received his musical education at the University of California Irvine.

Steve’s musical experience is as diverse as his ability to direct, produce, arrange and perform many styles of music. From Classical to Pop, Irish to Klesmer, Steve performs regularly on cello, guitar, piano, recorder and saxophone.

Steve’s recent television appearances include the Travel Channel and with the musical sensation Korn on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Pepsi commercials, MTV Music Video’s, NBC’s West Wing and Frasier.

His various other works include performances with such world-renowned artists as, Yo Yo Ma, Michael Crawford, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Rod Stewart, David Foster, George Martin, John Tesh, James Galway, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and Clint Black.

Steve performs regularly with The Mozart Classical Orchestra, Opera Pacific, Orange County Symphony, Disneyland Candlelight Orchestra and the Crystal Cathedral Symphony. Steve was also the Principal Cellist for the “Beatlemania Classical Mystery Tour” at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
