Steve Conte has been one busy musician over the past few years. After leaving New York Dolls in 2010 he joined up with former Hanoi Rocks front man Michael Monroe as guitarist, songwriter and backing vocalist to release 3 albums, the most recent of which - Horns And Halos, 2013 Spinefarm Records – he wrote the lion’s share of the songs for (it’s already been nominated for “Album Of The Year” by the Finnish Grammys and The Nordic Music Prize). In the summer of 2011, in between touring with Monroe he began work on what was to be his first official solo album, naming the project “Steve Conte NYC”.

“I was ready to make a move, to have a life change…and since Monroe lives in Finland, when he asked me to join him in 2010 it seemed like a good time to base myself in Europe. So I went back and forth between NYC and The Netherlands for the next 3 years, and though I loved the culture and history of Europe, I realized just how much New York was a part of my DNA. I was born and raised in New York State and was pining for it whenever I was in EU for long stretches of time. That is why, besides the fact that I recorded most of the album in New York City, I decided to call the new record, ‘The Steve Conte NYC Album’, to keep focus on who I am and where I’m from.”

While spending time in the EU, Conte toured extensively in UK, Holland, Belgium and France with a Dutch version of his NYC based band The Crazy Truth, calling it “Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth International”. In 2012 the band recorded 6 songs in The Netherlands at Labtones Studio, Dordrecht. The final product, “Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth: International Cover EP” is a collection of covers that the band played nightly on it’s European tours. (Note: the EP is not yet commercially available but will be soon.)

And now in 2014, after years of making records with others, NYC guitarist/singer/songwriter Steve Conte has stepped out on his own to release The Steve Conte NYC Album. His first official solo record delivers all the guitar, vocal and songwriting skills you know from his previous bands; Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth, Crown Jewels, The Contes and Company Of Wolves.

The ten song album features some of Steve’s finest writing to date. Songs that hold up in a solo acoustic performance – but recorded with a totally rockin’ band.

“Up until now I’ve always had some sort of core band to collaborate with but this time out I wanted to do something as a solo artist…with a bunch of friends!”

And that “bunch of friends” includes some serious talent. Joining Steve are members of Foo Fighters, The Wildhearts, New York Dolls, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Hanoi Rocks, Georgia Satellites, Alice Cooper, Mink DeVille, Hellacopters, The Urban Voodoo Machine, Mott The Hoople, Backyard Babies, The Wallflowers, Company Of Wolves, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, and players from the bands of Ian Hunter, John Mellencamp, Roseanne Cash and Bruce Springsteen.

In the fall of 2013 Conte announced a PledgeMusic campaign to fund the release of his forthcoming solo project. It was a great success, bringing in 352% of his original funding goal and making fans all over the globe happy with extras like custom recorded songs, handwritten lyric sheets, phone calls and with his weekly postings of video updates from the recording sessions.

The new album was mixed and mastered by Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Keith Richards) and Richard Dodd (Tom Petty, Counting Crows), respectively – the same team who did the 2009 release, Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth.

Great Album
Two of the best albums of the past 10 years have been Steve Conte and the Crazy Truth and now Steve Conte NYC. Both feature real honest to god rock & roll fabulous vocals, great musicianship and most important inspired songwriting in a variety of styles. In a marketplace blocked with packaged sounds and "product" Steve provides the listener with the real deal and deserves massive respect.

If you like rock&roll you will not be xisappointed, and that's a guarantee.

good feeling feet up beer drinking upbeat album
Sure is what it says on the tin,its got the spice and flavours of that new York twang sound but with that kick behind it that makes it worth the listen. Ya got it all on here that number you want that gets your feet stomping and hands tapping ,that mood when your in need of a pick me up or if ya wana kick back when youve had 1 of them days this album has it. Its an album that has been crafted well and its what we need at this time in the music journey. I listen to it and it sounds great and whatever song plays it tells a story and for me thats a gem. Listen buy and enjoy Steve Conte can hold his head up high as this album needs to be heard.

It's like having a little bit of NYC wherever I go
Steve Conte's music puts me in a good space, whether it is a NYC bar, a speakeasy or a honky tonk down in Texas. I haven't felt this good listening to new American roots music in decades. A truly versatile musician, Steve brings us musicality & an all star cast of players. Love, love, love the saxophones on "Lady Luck" and the superb backing vocals on "Anytime At All Times". This album should be played over and over at maximum volume...

Some of the very best songwriting , favorite CD for 2014
By far our favorite CD of 2014 , and some of the very best songwriting I have heard in a decade . Steve Conte NYC has straight forward up tempo rock n roll songs , nice ballads , great song hooks and a few other surprise songs Conte's lyrics behind the song stories are brilliant and keep your attention no matter how many times you hear the songs . His use of chord functional harmony music writing flows beautifully throughout the slow songs in particular . All 10 songs are excellent and vocals are great . Guitars , mandolin , piano , harmonica , cool guitar solos and a great crew off musicians top it all of in this Americana Rock Genre gem of a Cd . Buy Steve Conte NYC , you Will NOT be disappointed .... You will find yourself listening to it Over and Over !!

Unique and interesting
The Steve Conte NYC Album is fresh and simple. To me it sounded like Tom Petty's album Full Moon Fever. For example "What Would I do If I Were Me?" reminds me of Petty's "Zombie Zoo". Conte's playing style is very unique and interesting and, being a guitarist myself, I really dig it. Steve has the talent to tie different things together without making it too "hard" and tough. The album is not full of old-sounding rock n roll, like you might expect from a musician who has made music for such a long time, but it has the sound of 2013. Steve Conte NYC Album is in total a bit different and lighter from the earlier one but that's a good thing. And the mandolin and the harmonica fit in perfectly.
