ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
If John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash had a baby together, that would be weird. If their kid grew up and became a lawyer, practiced law for 25 years, then learned the guitar and took after all of his fathers, that would be singer songwriter Steve Mansfield. He writes witty and humorous heartfelt stories in an Indie-Pop-Americana-Country style. His characters and subjects are both offbeat and romantic and always original. From the rough and tumble of Catholic schools in the Jersey suburbs to the mean Marin streets of Mill Valley, Mansfield has seen it all. Fortunately, he is now singing about it. His debut album includes, as Mansfield points out, the No. 1 song "Arugula," -- the first track on the album. The album has provoked rave reviews from both coasts from almost all of his family members. Soon he will be touring nationwide at open mics to promote Arugula. Some are calling him "Dylan with diction." Others are calling him to offer a new cell phone plan. If you download the No. 1 song "Arugula," or better yet, the entire album, your life will change for the better. You'll be "Dancin' in the Elevator" with the "Girl of [your] Dreams" and "Sing[ing] Like a Cowboy" to your sweetheart that "I Just Wanna Look at You" because "We Were Meant to Be." For the sake of "Redundancy," put your "Fingerprints" on this "Arugula" CD and you'll feel like "[You] Won the Lottery" and start "Howlin' at the Moon!" Arugula is Tasty
The humor, unexpected ironic twists and often bizarre storylines lurking in Steve Mansfield's "Arugula" CD are guaranteed to amuse the enlightened listener. His love of language is apparent in every word he chooses, and his amused, enthusiastic spirit is highly contagious. Reminds me a bit of listening to Professor Tom Lehrer back in the 1950s; writing and performing was a side line for that Princeton educator, as it is for this California trial lawyer ... but you wouldn't know it. The CD has a very "clean" sound, well produced by Marin County-based Mark Keller. If you get a kick out of Mansfield's stories and deliveries, I suggest you check out his act ... he always gets a standing ovation. 3Chord Pete
