Album Notes
“To enjoy the new CD “ Mosaics and Murmurations and the sight of Steve Mullin's hands, sliding like a cascade of sound over the fingerboard of his guitar and mandolin, is like suddenly being transported to beautiful haunted nights of Malaga or, better yet, it’s like seeing a musical portrait of the Spanish soul. From the magical "Duendes of Winter", through the lyrical “Lullaby”, to "Seda de Oro" (“Gold Silk”) with a gorgeous Brazilian touch. I so enjoy listening to Steve’s guitar work and the wonderful roster of musicians that adorn this recording.” Alfredo Muro

The Mosaics and Murmurations ensemble is Steve Mullins guitar, mandolin, and percussion, Sandra Wong violin, (tracks 1,4 6,8,9,12) Doug Walter marimba (tracks 1,2,4,6,9,12), with special guests percussionist Brett Bowen (on tracks 6 and 12) and Kevin Garry 2nd guitar (on track 11)

“Guitarist Steve Mullins is a legend in Colorado as a flamenco performer, composer and teacher. He is one of the nation’s foremost practitioners of world music “ Jim Bailey Zuri Music

R. Orozco in Riff Magazine states “Flamenco has its roots in gypsy traditions, and has been influenced by people of southern Europe and N. Africa. I don’t know of any artist that has captured those roots and influences as well as Steve Mullins.”

“Not only does Steve play classical guitar beautifully, he is also a master of a number of guitar styles. I have never met a guitarist who is as musically acute (he has an amazing “ear”). His flamenco playing could be said to be virtuosic, but this is not what motivates him. Rather he is a master of the expressive arts and guitar is his instrument.” (Brenda M. Romero, Associate Professor of Musicology, University of Colorado)

Track 9 Homage includes original melodies along with quotations/arrangements of melodies borrowed from flamenco guitarists; Quique Paredas, Manolo San Lucar, Moraitio Chico, Tomatito, and Paco de Lucia.
