Album Notes
After Michael Tuttle left BAMF! I sought out a new bass player and found the wonderful, similar in style but with an increased knowledge of jazz, Dave Hutchinson. I was doing too much on stage with lead guitar and vocal duties so at the same time Dave came on board I also added the brilliant jam-rock based guitarist Adam Trahan. From the first rehearsal, phenomenal drummer Daren Shanholtzer (BAMF!), Dave, Adam, and myself clicked as a unit and realized we had jam-band chemistry. As a producer, I told myself, let the band write new tunes as a unit and use the new songs in addition to the original BAMF! repertoire. So with band looking at me like I was crazy, like the bats in the belfry variety of crazy, I would ask each person in the band to play whatever came into their minds at the moment and we would write our own parts for whatever they played on the spot and record the sections live. I would then take the jam sections, format them into songs, write lyrics (with the exception of K.A.K. where the lyrics and vocal were written and sung by Adam) and re-present them to the band. We then would rehearse the finish songs and rerecord them. I tried to make this recording to sound as much like we would live as possible so there are very little "production" overdubs. The final product had the following people playing the following instruments: Dave Hutchinson (Bass, Bongos on "Chester Drawers"), Steve Petrinko (Lead vocal, electric and acoustic guitars, conga, percussion, harmonica, keyboards, layered chorus vocals on "Potholes", Stereo Left Drumset, anklung, and kalimba on "Chester Drawers"), Daren Shanholtzer (Backing vocal, bells on " '53 Beetle", timpani, marimba, and Stereo Right Drumset on "Chester Drawers"), Adam Trahan (lead and rhythm guitar, okpokoro dibias on "Chester Drawers", lead vocal on "K.A.K."). This album was recorded 18 years ago and since that time another band called the Bureau has become published. Because of this and because it truly was my brainchild I have released the album under my name.
