Album Notes
It is what it is: a one-time-only ad-lib creation from the studio in the wee hours. One microphone, one singer, a rough idea, a few lyrics in mind, no editing, no overdubs, a white Hendrix Strat and two picture postcards of Elmore James’ 4-stringed six string guitar sent from The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. So it is what it is. Eclectric.
Well my baby said she’s leavin’ on a Pennsylvania train
Well I hear this on Sunday, it’s nice and sunny, it’s real funny
Cuz right away Monday it started to rain
It was cold at that station and the Syracuse wind is a crime
And as the train was pullin’ out I wrote “love you” backwards
In the passenger car window grime
The rails look like they’re varnished
Oh you can see ‘em shine
They’re what she’ll be runnin’ on
Lord knows she won’t be runnin’ on time
No these trains they don’t run on time
It was a Pennsylvania train takin’ her away
And a Pennsylvania train gonna bring her back one day

Well my baby said she’s gonna stop in Cleveland and go to the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
I’m stayin’ here home alone with Jimi’s old white Strat cuz you know
I ain’t no Elmore James
And it’s cold and it’s dreary and the wind is still a freakin’ crime
What ever happened to my sunshine?
Grey days and silver trains combine to make me blue
And it’s drivin’ me loco hearin’ Sarah Vaughn singin’ a song about
Irreplaceable you – sweet embraceable you
It was a Pennsylvania train took her away
A Pennsylvania train gonna bring her back one day

Slow down
I hear a northbound on the way
And it’s a Pennsy train gonna bring her back today – Yay
And that’s good cuz I just can’t use no more of these Pennsy train blues
