Wishingtree Chants

1. oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya

May divine consciousness be birthed or awakened within me.

2. oṁ namah śivaya śivaya namah oṁ

To invoke the Lord of Yoga Śiva. Śiva is also the destroyer of ignorance.

3. śuklām baradharam viṣṇum śaśi varṇam caturbhujam
prasan navadanam dhyāyet sarva vighno paśāntaye

This beautiful and powerful mantra relates to both the Lord of Preserver Viṣṇu and the Lord of Remover of obstacles Gaṇeśa. Gaṇeśa is also the recorder of the Mahābhārata.

4. om bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ tát savitúr váreṇyam
bhárgo devásya dhīmahi dhíyo yó naḥ prachodayāt

A meditation on Light, this is the Brahma-Gāyatrī mantra which personifies the Goddess of Wisdom, Sarasvatī, the wife of the Lord of Creator Brahmā and mother of spiritual knowledge.

5. oṃ āḥ hūṃ vajra guru padma siddhi hūṃ

This Vajra guru mantra invokes the Spiritual master, the Self-realized being.

6. hare kṛṣṇa hare kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

Hare addresses the remover of sin and the destroyer of ignorance. Rama is the name of the God of love, as the source of pleasure. Krishna is the master of knowledge and wisdom; the one who gives freedom.

7. sita ram sita ram sita ram jay sita ram

Sita and Rama are recognized as a divine couple. The story of Rama and Sita can be read in Rāmāyaṇa. Sita is essentially the embodiment of devotion, loyalty, self-sacrifice, courage and purity; Rama is the embodiment of integrity, solidity. Rama is also the name of the God of love.

8. he bhagavan he bhagavan jaya guru he bhagavan
jaya guru jaya guru tuma ho mahan sarana aye ham tumhare

This chant offers gratitude to all our teachers who take us from darkness into light.

9. om hari om

The universal mantra to remove suffering. The light of the sun or full moon gives us the ability to see. Hari represents the spiritual knowledge which is like the light. Combined with the universal sound OM, denotes that one who is able to see, hear and speak can remove suffering.

Kirtan is a natural progression/ evolution of my music, and I delight in the Love expressed through sacred Sanskrit healing mantras. Kirtan is a type of yoga singing or chanting that expresses pure Love to and from the heart. We are in special place, a secret place, a sacred place when we experience the Love. Kirtan guides us to this place in our hearts, together as we chant, make music, make vibration, make resonance, make Love. Love Mysticism! Kirtan is an important part of the Yoga of Sound. Sound Yoga is Sonic Mysticism. Through Sound one cultivates the experience of sacred sound vibration and resonance. Yoga or Mysticism cultivates a direct experience of Divine Presence. Sound Yoga is a path to cultivate, through sacred sound vibration and resonance and Love, a direct experience of Divine Presence. Yoga is Love Mysticism as it combines Tantra and Bhakti in order to embrace the Divine, the Love of the Divine. The Breath of Joy activates healing energy. Hatha Yoga activates healing energy. Kirtan activates healing energy. The Yoga of Sound activates healing energy. These paths are one in the same in the presence of the Divine, in the presence of Love. I invite everyone to experience Love through the chanting of Kirtana, the asanas of Hatha, the energy of Tantra, and ultimately the devotion of Bhakti.

“If you want to awaken all of humanity then awake all of yourself. If you want to eliminate suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self transformation.”(Lao Tze)

“Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving – it doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vow a hundred times, Come, come again, come.”(Rumi)

Welcome to all, to experience Kirtan at Wishingtree Yoga.
