Album Notes
Stone Throw Second is a hard working alternative rock band hailing from Winnipeg, Canada. The band formed in late 2009 when founding members Dan Mitchell and Jeremy Yuen found their former project A New Honour on hiatus. Their beginnings which had found them success within the local music scene, accolades which include; independently releasing a fourteen track album, touring across the province, receiving airtime and regular rotation on local radio stations, being chosen for two compilation discs for two separate rock radio stations, being crowned regional winners at the Mazda Muzak Tour, as well performing and becoming runner ups at the Hard Rock Café in Toronto for the first Great Canadian Band Challenge, have only raised the bar for what is to be expected from Stone Throw Second. Acquiring lead guitarist Brayden Castles-Sitas and bassist Patrick West solidified the bands lineup and in early 2010 they began recording their debut album at Private Ear Studio’s with producer John Paul Peters (Death Cab for Cutie, Comeback Kid, The Waking Eyes). The band has drawn many comparisons, from the Smiths to Stone Temple Pilots and Foo Fighters. Songwriter Mitchell describes the band’s sound as “riff oriented, modern rock, with a throwback feel.” And can contribute the bands unique style as a derivative of every member’s separate influences ranging from classic rock to metal and even jazz. Down to earth as well as humble the group doesn’t expect anything to come easy and is fully prepared for the blood, sweat and tears that it takes to become successful within the music industry. The band name Stone Throw Second, which was derived from one of the bands lyrics, was chosen because it represented a feeling of urgency, a measurement of time where individuals should be motivated to do the best that they can, with the time they are given. And this is the mentality that accurately defines a band like Stone Throw Second.
