The Natural Sweetness of Cream

by Stoney Spring

The third album from this genre-defying L.A. artist blends psychedelic folk, punk rock, and avant-garde composition into something you won't hear anywhere else. Profound, profane and bold, it's a breath of fresh air in this age of safe, derivative music.

Album Notes
If you’ve been closely following the artistic trajectory of Stoney Spring-- and there’s a 99% chance that you have not—you know the surreal, mind-bending vibe that continues to bloom from the band’s fertile black soil. In both its lyrics and musicianship, the band celebrates earthly pleasures and takes a satisfyingly defiant stand against mediocrity in all forms. And as always, they’re stubbornly, profanely dismissive of “digital culture” (whatever that is). Never before have these themes come together with such ear-pleasing unity as on The Natural Sweetness Of Cream, the third album from the Los Angeles natives which will be released on October 20th on Western Seeds Records.

LA Weekly critic John Payne said of Stoney Spring:

“Wholly original in ways not unlike that of Captain Beefheart, Harry Partch or Shuggie Otis. You know, an instinctive originality, unhindered by cultural or aesthetic archetype, just blessed with some kind of really strong radar…It’s like hearing the truth, unvarnished, for the first time, and feeling shocked, like you’re experiencing the taste of an apple after subsisting on PopTarts your whole previous life... Weary, cynical and sad, too…but which comes off bracing, exhilarating, even.”

Stoney Spring is the brainchild of composer and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Lacques, the co-founder of acclaimed alt-country band I See Hawks in L.A. Anthony teams up with his former Hawks Rob Waller and brother Paul Lacques, and a bunch of other super-talented Los Angeles musicians to produce the heady brew that is Stoney Spring.
