ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
PERILLEUX, the sophomore release from Stranger Cat borrows it's name from a French word best described by an image of a gymnast doing a jump or back flip, falling through the air suspended with no landing. It is a grand gesture, full of excitement, risk, and perilous danger. Mid-album making, Martino had a serious accident, and was immoblized in a wheelchair for 4 months, in a purgatory of unknowing from Doctor's predictions if she would fully heal or dance again (she did). This is our entrance into an album with beat and synth driven slow jam love letters to her own solitary pain and injury, amidst the risks of falling in and out of love across the sea between Paris and New York, in a time of chaos, desire, surrender and hope.

The premiere track Hollow Heartbreak, opens with Martino alone on a desolate road, singing slowly and soulfully, "hollow heartbreak, how much more can I take?" - but morphs into a celebratory bedroom pop sparkly synth and 808s beat driven dance party letting go of everything - the kind of dance party you have alone when no one is looking.

Stranger Cat, the frequent collaborator with Sufjan Stevens, Son Lux, The Shins, Sharon Van Etten (circa Epic) and others, comes back with a soulful collection of art pop songs. Marked my Martino's velvet croon, signature vocal looping, and driven by a production style that is both electronic and organic, Stranger Cat delivers intricate, soulful, and dark R&B pop.
