Close to Real

by The Subterraneans

"A bit of a departure from their previous pop/punk sound, Close to Real, is the sound of a band stretching out musically, lyrically, and sonically. Hook laden songs that manage to be powerful, melodic, and richly atmospheric."

Album Notes
Formed by Guitarist Rik Mercaldi & Drummer Mike Roze, and together for over 10 years, playing an eclectic brand of Rock & Roll with influences ranging from '60 British "Mod" to '70's New York Punk as well as a penchant for live improvisation. After performing as a duo around NYC, bassist Mike Curry joined the band in time to record their first album. In 1998 the band released a self titled debut "The Subterraneans" followed by a five song E.P "5 Tracks". The band has appeared on numerous compilations including a Dogs D'Amour Tribute titled "Bullet Proof Poems".
This album, Close To Real, was their last album together. It was recorded and produced by drummer Mike Roze and originally released in 2007. Since the departure of bassist Mike Curry, The Subterraneans were put on hiatus and Rik Mercaldi & Mike Roze continued to work together in a variety of musical projects, including Rik's self titled solo release, also available on CD Baby. A collection of acoustic based songs recorded and produced by Juano Lippi. Most recently the band has been reactivated and are currently finishing up their latest album to be release on Pyrrhic Victory Recordings in 2015. Stay tuned!
