Album Notes
The year is 1925 and jazz music is all the rage in America. The saxophone has become one of the leading voices in this new, uniquely American musical style. Travelling saxophone troupes, most famously the Six Brown Brothers, have thrilled audiences nationwide with their virtuosity and showmanship. Over a period of a few short years, the saxophone has gone from being considered an obscure novelty instrument to an incredibly popular mainstream musical voice.

The Sultans of Sax is a group dedicated to preserving the magic of this "golden age" of the saxophone. Many of our musical arrangements are the actual arrangements that were performed by saxophone groups such as the Brown Brothers over 90 years ago. Others are modern arrangements of classic jazz and ragtime pieces from the early twentieth century.

Virtually all members of the saxophone instrument family are represented in our unique ensemble -- from the mighty bass saxophone to the tiny sopranino to the uncommonly heard C melody saxophone.

We hope you enjoy our special tribute to this glorious musical age!
