Album Notes
SunMoonPie is an Atlanta-based Jewish music duo focusing on alternative Jewish prayer melodies & meditative Hebrew kirtan-inspired chants. We are singer-songwriters Bonnie Levine on keyboards/harmonium & Michael Levine on guitar, often accompanied by talented percussionists and other musicians.

Michael, of Birmingham, Alabama, is the co-founder of The Learning Groove music & movement, the music producer of the original four NY Times Bestselling Pete The Cat picture books and as a singer-songwriter has opened for such bands as Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, Live and Joe Walsh. Michael has described himself as a "Jew Bu" and his spiritual interests include meditation and interfaith dialogue.

Bonnie, of Williamsburg, Virginia, is an attorney, who spends her free time on Jewish music in various forms. She is a member of the Congregation Bet Haverim Chorus. In the past she was a longtime member and musical director of the female a cappella group Octave. Bonnie adores traditional Jewish law and ritual, and the description of mitzvot as a lamp within which to carry the light of Torah. She maintains an Atlanta Jewish Times blog hosted by the Times of Israel, in which she discusses whatever she wants.

Our name "sunmoonpie" reflects the oneness that sun and moon symbolize throughout Jewish liturgy, presented both as opposites and complements to one another. Our tradition uses sun and moon to illustrate the transcendent Divine presence over all. When it comes to spirituality, the two of us often find ourselves as different as sun and moon--the universe brought us together, and we aspire to channel our philosophical wrestling in pursuit of a higher purpose through music.

Bonnie and Michael are married with two children, Eden (age 5) and Emet (age 3), and regularly lead Jewish prayer experiences in Atlanta and in other cities. They are affiliated with Conservative shul Ahavath Achim (AA) Synagogue as well as Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Haverim.

We were born from the Atlanta Jewish community, including Ahavath Achim (AA) Synagogue in Atlanta, Atlanta Jewish Music Festival (AJMF) and Limmud SE.
